Emerson-Hubbard Boys and Girls lose to Pender and Omaha Nation; Girls beat Winside in Sub-Districts
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 65-39 at home to Pender Thursday night before falling 74-40 at Omaha Nation Friday night.
Things continue to be tough for the Pirates this season.
Emerson-Hubbard (1-20) takes on Stanton (3-18) on the road Friday night to round out the regular season.
The Mustangs lost 60-57 at Clarkson/Leigh Thursday night, a game the Patriots jumped out to a 20-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter in.
Emerson-Hubbard has to come out motivated and ready to go Friday night.
The Pirates have to be encouraged by the fact Stanton fell to Clarkson/Leigh.
That should give Emerson-Hubbard the confidence necessary to go in and knock off the Mustangs.
The Pirates could really use a win to boost morale, confidence, and momentum.
Emerson-Hubbard hasn't won a game this calendar year, and could really use an uplifting game heading into sub-districts.
The Pirates aren't in that difficult of a sub-district, and got a good draw with Winside I feel.
If Emerson-Hubbard can pick up a win over Stanton it could give them an edge against the Wildcats perhaps.
No win is easy this time of year, but the Pirates have a shot to win on Friday and on Tuesday, in my opinion.
Emerson-Hubbard has to approach things like it's a new season and everyone is 0-0.
The Pirates have to start over and start fresh, and try and get their season on track before it's too late.
Time is running out on Emerson-Hubbard, but we'll see what final hoorah the Pirates have left in them.
Emerson-Hubbard has to make one final stand, and try and make state history by shocking people in the postseason.
Anyone can be beat on any given night, and it all starts with picking up a win over Stanton Friday night.
The Pirates have to step up and play well to give themselves a shot next week, in my opinion.
Emerson-Hubbard doesn't have much time to get things figured so playing a sense of urgency and purpose is super critical, in my opinion.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls Basketball Team lost 50-35 at home to Pender Thursday night, and fell 57-37 at Omaha Nation Friday night, before winning 37-18 over Winside in the D2-3 Sub-District Semifinals at Stanton Tuesday night.
Pender led the Pirates 16-9 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-8 to take a 27-17 lead into the locker room.
The Pendragons outscored Emerson-Hubbard 11-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 38-21 at the end of three.
The Pirates won the 4th quarter 14-12.
Melanie Gentrup had 12 points while Courtney Bokemper notched 7. Cailin Gentrup added 8 rebounds.
The Chiefs pulled ahead 15-7 at the end of one. Both teams scored 11 2nd quarter points, and the halftime score was 26-18 in favor of Omaha Nation.
The Chiefs outscored Emerson-Hubbard 15-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 41-26 at the end of three.
Omaha Nation won the 4th quarter 16-11.
Melanie Gentrup led the way with 17 points while Bokemper totaled 7 points and 8 rebounds. Cailin Gentrup registered 11 rebounds.
The Pirates spurted out to a 14-5 lead on the Wildcats at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard blanked Winside 3-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 17-5 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the 3rd quarter 8-5 to go up 25-10 at the end of three.
Melanie Gentrup paced Emerson-Hubbard with 15 points while Addison Mackling notched 8. Bokemper chipped in 7 points and 10 rebounds.
I thought Emerson-Hubbard did particularly well in keeping things respectable for a half with the Pendragons and Chiefs, and beating the Wildcats.
The Pirates (5-18) battle Humphrey St. Francis (22-2) in the D2-3 Sub-District Final at Stanton Thursday night.
Emerson-Hubbard won 71-27 over St. Edward in the Semifinals Tuesday night.
It might be a longshot for the Pirates to win this game, but at least Emerson-Hubbard has made it this far.
Just to have the opportunity to play a great team and program like Humphrey St. Francis is a big deal.
The Pirates have to come into this game thinking they've got a chance to pull off the upset though.
Thinking and believing you're going to win is the only way of making it happen.
Emerson-Hubbard has to play hard for 4 quarters and let the score take care of itself.
The Pirates just have to play their game and let the results speak for itself.
Emerson-Hubbard has to control what they can control, and let the rest take care of itself.
The Pirates have to give maximum effort, and must play and fight hard until the very end no matter what.
Emerson-Hubbard has to give it their all for 4 quarters, and go out there and see what happens.
Melanie and Cailin Gentrup, Bokemper, Mackling, Taylor Lamp, and the rest of the team have to have big games for the Pirates.
Emerson-Hubbard needs everyone to step up and contribute.
I would go as far as to say everyone needs to score in double figures for the Pirates to upset the Flyers.
Emerson-Hubbard just has to remember it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
The Pirates may not be the better team on paper, but games are not played on paper.
So Emerson-Hubbard has to be optimistic and must go out there and give it their best shot.
The Pirates really have nothing to lose so if anything Emerson-Hubbard should play calm and relaxed.
The Pirates can't let the emotions of the game get the best of them.
Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
