West Point-Beemer Boys beat Oakland-Craig, lose to Pierce; Girls beat Knights and win first sub-district game

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team defeated Oakland-Craig 65-39 at home Friday night before losing 41-37 at Pierce on Saturday.

The Cadets led the Knights 16-15 after one. Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 17-15 to take a 32-31 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 14-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 46-36 at the end of three.

The Cadets outscored Oakland-Craig 20-2 in the 4th quarter.

Blake Anderson posted 16 points and 8 rebounds while Chase Streeter had 15 points and 7 boards. Tate Ernesti chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Hunter Pilakowski added 7 assists.

The Bluejays led the Cadets 15-6 after one before West Point-Beemer outscored Pierce 11-6 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 21-17 lead at halftime.

The Cadets won the 3rd quarter 14-9 to go up 35-26 at the end of three.

The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 11-6.

Chase Streeter had 14 points and 7 rebounds while Anderson had 7 points. Austin Streeter chipped in 7 rebounds.

Great win for West Point-Beemer on Friday, but a definite setback on Saturday.

The Cadets (14-9) host Fremont Bergan (10-11) Friday night in the regular season finale.

The Knights won 51-42 at GACC on Saturday.

West Point-Beemer should win, but you never know.

I think it would be a big deal for the Cadets to win their final home game of the season, and send the seniors out winners in their last ever home game.

West Point-Beemer has to use this game to work out any issues that might of arose on Saturday, and finish out the regular season strong.

Pierce had no business beating the Cadets, in my opinion.

West Point-Beemer should have been able to win.

I look for West Point-Beemer to get redemption Friday night though.

But the Cadets have to get the ball inside to their bigs.

Scoring from the outside and shooting the ball well is important for West Point-Beemer too, but the Cadets' bread and butter, and where they make their living, is scoring in the paint.

Both Streeter wins, Alex Gianella, Ernesti, Anderson, and others have to dominate down low.

West Point-Beemer has to be tough with the ball, and must box out and be aggressive on defense.

The Cadets have to be better offensively than they were against the Bluejays.

It's never easy to win a game when you score less than 40.

Bergan's not the strongest defensive team out there though, in my opinion, so West Point-Beemer should be able to get into the 50's at least you would think.

The Cadets have to be determined and want this one more than the Knights.

West Point-Beemer has to put a hurtin on Bergan, and create some positive momentum heading into sub-districts next week.

The Cadets have to take it to the Knights from start to finish, and be relentless with their pressure on defense and attack on offense.

West Point-Beemer has to play with a motor that never ends for 4 quarters Friday night.

I think just getting to win number 15 heading into sub-districts would be big for the Cadets from a mental standpoint.

The West Point-Beemer Girls Basketball Team won 65-33 at home over Oakland-Craig Friday night to end the regular season before winning 56-13 over Fort Calhoun in the C1-4 Sub-District Semifinals from Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.

The Cadets tripled up the Knights 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Oakland-Craig 18-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-12 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 21-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 51-20 at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 14-13.

Sidney Swanson had 18 points while Brittney Hinkel totaled 15. Megan Groth added 7 while Makenna Weddle notched 7 rebounds.

West Point-Beemer led the Pioneers 17-1 at the end of the 1st quarter, and blanked Fort Calhoun 20-0 in the 2nd quarter to lead 37-1 at halftime.

The Cadets doubled up the Pioneers 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 49-7 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer won the 4th quarter 7-6.

Groth, Katie Pilakowski, and Andrea Hoffman had 10 points each while Swanson totaled 9.

Two great and huge wins for the Cadets. West Point-Beemer continues to play great basketball.

The Cadets (19-6) take on Arlington (15-10) in the C1-4 Sub-District Final at Oakland-Craig Thursday night.

The Eagles beat Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 50-37 in the Sub-District Semifinals Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer knocked off Arlington 45-35 at home in the season opener on November 30th.

I look for the Cadets to win again.

I think the game could be fairly close, like a 7-point margin of victory for West Point-Beemer, but I fully expect the Cadets to win and take care of business.

I don't think the Eagles will be able to get past West Point-Beemer. I feel the Cadets are too strong defensively, and will do enough offensively to win.

West Point-Beemer has to get fired up for this one though.

I consider Arlington to be kind of a bit of a rival, and the Cadets surely don't want to see their season end on Thursday.

West Point-Beemer needs to just win at this point. It's survive and advance this time of year.

However, I think the Cadets need to do more than just win Thursday night to be able to win a district final against either Bishop Neumann or Wahoo.

Just getting by might work Thursday night, but if West Point-Beemer just wins a close game against Arlington, I don't know if they will have the confidence and momentum necessary to take down Bishop Neumann or Wahoo.

The Cadets have to light a fire under themselves, and come out and dominate Thursday night.

Championship teams dominate teams they have a significantly better record than, and that's what West Point-Beemer has to do Thursday night.

The Cadets are due to breakthrough and end their state drought one of these years, and if it is to happen this year West Point-Beemer needs to continue their dominant ways of the second half of the season on Thursday and next Friday if they make it that far.

The Cadets can definitely dominate the Eagles, it's just a matter of going out there and making it happen.

If West Point-Beemer can pick up a double-digit win over Arlington, I think that gives them a better shot to win a district final than if they just win by say 5 or 7.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
