North Bend Central Boys and Girls 2-1 in last three games
The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 in their last three games, falling 65-54 to BRLD in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Friday night, blowing out Oakland-Craig 80-45 in the 3rd place game on Saturday at Central Community College in Columbus, and routing Tekamah-Herman 72-22 at home Tuesday night.
The Tigers led the Wolverines 15-8 after one before BRLD won the 2nd quarter 19-11 to go up 27-26 at halftime.
The Wolverines outscored North Bend Central 18-7 in the 3rd quarter to lead 45-33 at the end of three.
The Tigers won the 4th quarter 21-20.
Tanner Wietfeld led the way with 16 points while Jaxon Wietfeld scored 14. John Emanuel added 13 while Austin Endorf chipped in 9.
The Tigers and Knights were tied at 9 after one. North Bend Central outscored Oakland-Craig 25-12 in the 2nd quarter to go up 34-21 at halftime.
The Tigers also outscored Oakland-Craig 25-12 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 59-33 at the end of three.
North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 21-12.
Tanner Wietfeld had a game-high 21 points while Emanuel notched 18. Endorf posted 7.
North Bend Central got out to a 21-4 lead at the end of one on Tekamah-Herman, and outscored them 24-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 45-6 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Tekamah-Herman 16-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 61-16 at the end of three.
North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 11-6.
Emanuel finished with 16 points while Peter Emanuel had 13. Tanner Wietfeld and Endorf notched 10 apiece.
Two big wins for North Bend Central following the BRLD loss. The Tigers were angry you could say.
North Bend Central (17-3) takes on Howells-Dodge (11-9) on the road Thursday night.
The Jaguars won 52-41 over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the Silver Bracket of the Conference Tournament at Wisner-Pilger Friday night.
Howells-Dodge has been up and down this year.
When the Jaguars are on, they are on. When Howells-Dodge is off, they are off.
I think it all depends on which Jaguars' team shows up as to how close this game is.
The Tigers have been very consistent this year, especially in the last two games, and I look for North Bend Central to come out and play well.
You can bet Howells-Dodge will come out and put up a strong fight given the fact it's the last home game of the season for them.
It's hard to believe the regular season is about done.
The Tigers have 3 regular season games left, and I think North Bend Central has a great chance to take a 20-3 record into sub-districts.
The key to beating Howells-Dodge, in my opinion, is control tempo and get out and run and shoot 3's in transition.
It's what the Tigers are good at, and it's what they excel at.
The last thing North Bend Central wants is a slower paced grind it out type of game.
The Tigers appear to be more athletic and quicker from what I've seen when watching both teams, but the Jaguars are capable of beating anyone they play.
Tanner Wietfeld, John Emanuel, Endorf, and Peter Emanuel all need to do what they did Tuesday night.
They got it done offensively for North Bend Central.
The Tigers aren't all about offense though. How about their defense?
Holding Oakland-Craig to 45 minutes and holding Tekamah-Herman to 6 in the 1st half is a great job in my book.
Hopefully North Bend Central can continue their stellar play because the Tigers certainly need to be on top of their game with the postseason coming up.
I think North Bend Central has a great chance to make state, but the Tigers have to keep playing great, fundamentally sound basketball.
The North Bend Central Girls Basketball Team is also 2-1 in their last three games, defeating West Point-Beemer 35-31 in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals at Stanton Thursday night, losing 36-35 to BRLD in Saturday's Championship game at Central Community College in Columbus, and turning around and downing Tekamah-Herman 60-30 at home Tuesday night.
The Tigers held an early 7-4 advantage on the Cadets, but the Cadets then went on a run that had them leading 14-9 after the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime. However, West Point-Beemer was held to just eight points offensively in the second half, helping secure the win for North Bend.
Kristin Lux led the Tigers with 11 points. Hailey Bang added 9 while Lauren Emanuel scored 8.
The Tigers led 9-8 after one against BRLD before the Wolverines outscored North Bend Central 7-1 in the 2nd quarter to build a 15-10 halftime lead.
The Tigers outscored BRLD 13-7 in the 3rd quarter to reclaim the lead at 23-22 heading into the 4th.
The Wolverines won the final frame 14-12.
North Bend Central was led by Brooke Fredrickson, who had 12 points. Emanuel notched 7.
Tekamah-Herman led 13-12 after one before North Bend Central outscored them 17-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-18 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Tekamah-Herman 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 21 at 43-22 at the end of three.
North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 17-8.
Emanuel led NBC with 15 points while Kaitlynn Bjorklund and Megan Ortmeier posted 11 and 10, respectively.
Good offensive scoring explosion for North Bend Central Tuesday night.
The Tigers (16-4) round out the regular season at Howells-Dodge (11-10) Thursday night.
The Jaguars lost 53-48 in overtime to Clarkson/Leigh in the Silver Bracket at Twin River this past Thursday night.
North Bend Central routed Howells-Dodge 58-40 in the EHC Quarterfinals at North Bend last Monday night.
I look for the Tigers to win big again.
The Jaguars are kind of down and out of it right now you could say.
With that said, Howells-Dodge could come out and play well with it being their last regular season game, and last home game.
I think the Jaguars could come out and play inspired, but I fully expect North Bend Central to take care of business.
Right now the Tigers and Columbus Scotus are neck and neck for the No.1 seed in Sub-Districts.
Regardless of seeding, I look for the C1-7 Sub-District to come down to those two.
I think scoring is the big thing for North Bend Central.
When NBC scores like they did against Howells-Dodge and Tekamah-Herman they are at their best.
But when the Tigers have those games where they score in the 30's like they did against BRLD and West Point-Beemer that's when they get into trouble.
If North Bend Central can score in the 40's or better against the Shamrocks, should the two teams play again, then I think the Tigers can definitely win.
But if North Bend Central only puts up 24 points again it's going to be tough for them to come out of that sub-district, in my opinion.
There's no doubt the Tigers can do it though. North Bend Central did it in Volleyball, beating Scotus, and I don't see why it can't happen in basketball too.
Tough road to a District Final and State, but anything is possible and can happen at this time of year.
I guess the first order of business is taking care of Howells-Dodge.
I think this is a game where North Bend Central would like to build a big enough lead to rest their starters some in the 2nd half.
