Oakland-Craig Boys win first two East Husker Conference Tournament Games; Girls finish tournament 0-2

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team defeated Stanton 64-31 at Wisner-Pilger in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday before downing the Gators 66-62 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the Quarterfinals Tuesday night.

The Knights quadrupled up the Mustangs 12-3 in the 1st quarter. Stanton won the 2nd quarter 16-11 to make it a 23-19 game at halftime in favor of Oakland-Craig.

The Knights outscored the Mustangs 28-10 in the 3rd quarter to lead 51-29 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig outscored Stanton 13-2 in the 4th quarter.

Garrison Dodge led the Knights with 14 points while Kobe Benne scored 11. Garrett Seagren, Jared Mulder, and Wyatt Seagren totaled 8 apiece.

Oakland-Craig led the Gators 24-11 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 21-17 to build a 45-28 halftime advantage.

Wisner-Pilger outscored the Knights 18-11 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 56-46 game at the end of three.

The Gators outscored Oakland-Craig 16-10 in the 4th quarter.

Garrett Seagren recorded 21 points and 8 rebounds while Benne totaled 20 points. Dodge chipped in 11.

Two good and nice wins so far for the Knights in the Tournament.

Oakland-Craig (13-6) takes on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (16-2) in the Semifinals at Logan View Friday night in a game that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Raiders won 67-35 at home over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the Quarterfinals Tuesday night.

LVSS defeated the Knights 67-45 in Oakland in the season opener on November 30th.

I think this game will be much closer than that game was.

Reason being Oakland-Craig was without Garrett Seagren, and he makes a huge difference.

I fully expect the Knights to compete well and make things close.

I think the game will be close, and feel Oakland-Craig is capable of pulling off the upset.

The Knights nearly beat North Bend Central a couple weeks back, and so I think Oakland-Craig proved they are capable of hanging with the best of the best.

It will be interesting to see if the Knights can get over the hump and win this time around.

Oakland-Craig avenged one loss in this tournament by knocking off the Gators so we'll see if they can do it again against the Raiders.

Much more difficult task this time around, but anything is certainly possible.

The Knights have to play flawless, out of their minds, and without fear.

Oakland-Craig has to play with reckless abandonment and without regard for human life.

The Knights have to try and push tempo and get up and down the floor.

I think Oakland-Craig is better off trying to get in a run and gun game with LVSS than a halfcourt defensive struggle.

The Knights have a golden opportunity to pull off a great win Friday night, and have to make the most of it.

Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. on the Bull, following the BRLD/North Bend Central game at 6:00 p.m.

The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team went 0-2 in the East Husker Conference Tournament, falling 38-32 to Clarkson/Leigh at Howells-Dodge Friday night, and 43-36 at home to Wisner-Pilger in the Bronze Bracket Thursday night.

The Knights and Patriots were tied at 7 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to lead 14-13 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Knights 17-5 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 30-19 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig won the 4th quarter 13-8.

Ashley Denton totaled 16 points while Natalia McNeill notched 7. Makenna Pearson added 8 rebounds.

The Gators led the Knights 8-7 after one before Oakland-Craig outscored Wisner-Pilger 13-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-14 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored the Knights 13-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 27-24 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 16-12.

Oakland-Craig has remained competitive without Kennedy Benne, but simply hasn't had the offensive firepower to win you could say.

Oakland-Craig (11-7) battles Fremont Bergan (14-4) on the road Tuesday night.

Bergan won 49-38 at Omaha Concordia this past Tuesday night.

I look for Oakland-Craig to compete in this one, but winning might be asking a bit too much.

If Oakland-Craig can get Denton, McNeill, and Mya Guzinski going at once perhaps they could start winning again, but even that might be a stretch.

Oakland-Craig has a difficult road the rest of the way, and it doesn't figure to be easy for them from here on out.

Oakland-Craig has to keep playing hard and competing and doing their best though.

Oakland-Craig is a strong defensive team now it's a matter of getting the offense going.

Benne and Dacey Nelson aren't coming back this season so it's simply up to the rest of the girls to pick up the slack and get things back on track if that's possible.

So far a single player has stepped in a particular game, but Oakland-Craig lacks scoring consistency across the board.

It's a tough situation when you have 45 points a game sitting on the bench.

I can't think of any other time when a team lost their two best players due to season ending knee injuries.

It's definitely not easy to deal and cope with if you are Oakland-Craig, but these girls have to rally around each other and get through it together the best they can.

There's still a few games left at least and so Oakland-Craig has to make the most of what's left in the season.

Oakland-Craig has to go out there and keep fighting, battling, and giving it their all.

West Point-Beemer isn't the strongest team offensively so perhaps Oakland-Craig can get the Cadets on Friday.

It will be tough, but anything can happen, and that's the card Oakland-Craig has to play the rest of the season.

Oakland-Craig has to relish the underdog role as best as possible, and continue to do everything they can to come out on top in every single game from here on out.
