Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys lose at Yutan, knock off Fort Calhoun in Sub-Districts
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team rounded out the regular season Friday night with a 57-52 loss at Yutan before winning 71-32 over Fort Calhoun in the C1-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.
The Chieftains led 15-8 at the end of one before outscoring the Raiders 15-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-15 lead into the locker room.
LVSS won the 3rd quarter 13-10 to cut the deficit to 12 at 40-28 at the end of three.
The Raiders outscored Yutan 24-17 in the 4th quarter.
Alex Hagerbaumer led the way with 18 points while Nathan Taylor and Jacob Polk recorded 11 and 9, respectively.
The Raiders spurted out to a 31-4 lead at the end of one on the Pioneers, and won the 2nd quarter 17-10 to take a 48-14 lead into the locker room.
LVSS won the 3rd quarter 16-10 to build a 64-24 lead at the end of three.
The Pioneers outscored the Raiders 8-7 in the 4th quarter.
Ben Moxness led all players with 28 points while Polk and Hagerbaumer totaled 15 and 13, respectively.
Head Coach Sean Forbes says his team came storming out of the gates. "Yeah we came out with a lot of fire in that 1st quarter, 31-4. So we were pretty excited. We knew we had to play with a higher effort level in the 1st quarter. It's kind of been our achilles' heel the last couple weeks. So we were real focused on that 1st quarter."
Forbes adds his team let off the pressure after building the big lead. "We were pressing. When we get out and play defense and scramble around on our press it really makes us pretty good. We backed it off once we got that lead so whenever you back off like that it takes some of the aggression away from them, but I'm really proud of that 1st quarter and how well we came out, and just answered the call."
LVSS (20-4) battles Arlington (8-17) in the Sub-District Final Thursday night.
The Eagles upset West Point-Beemer 49-42 in the other semifinal Tuesday night.
The Raiders downed Arlington 66-41 at home on Tuesday, January 16th.
That game was close early on before LVSS pulled away.
The Raiders have to come out strong like they did against the Pioneers on Tuesday.
LVSS has to be relentless with their defensive pressure, and must attack the basket hard like they did against Fort Calhoun.
The Raiders have to get off to the same kind of start they got off to in that game, and must finish the game strong.
It has to be a complete game performance from Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
The Raiders are back in the Wildcard picture after O'Neill was upset by Boone Central/Newman Grove.
LVSS has to beat Arlington to have a chance at a wildcard, but there's no reason to think that won't happen.
The Raiders don't want the Eagles hanging around and keeping this one close though.
LVSS has to blow Arlington out of the water, and leave no doubt.
The Raiders have to build a huge lead, big enough to rest starters late in the game if at all possible.
LVSS has to first and foremost take care of business Thursday night, but if possible rest starters and save their energy for a district final against Wahoo or Bishop Neumann.
We will see if this is the year that the Raiders can break through and make state for the first time in Logan View School History.
It should be an exciting game Thursday night, and I look for LVSS to come through and win big.
This is it for the Raiders...it's win or go home for LVSS.
The Raiders have to give it their all from here on out, and let their play speak for itself.
The good news is LVSS appears to have gotten over their two-game mini slump they were in prior to sub-districts.
Thursday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
