Howells-Dodge Boys knock off Wakefield on the road; Girls beat Lutheran High Northeast in Sub-Districts

The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team won 52-45 in double overtime at Wakefield Friday night.

The Trojans got out to a 9-6 lead after one before the Jaguars won the 2nd quarter 7-2 to go up 13-11 at halftime.

Howells-Dodge outscored Wakefield 11-6 in the 3rd quarter to lead 24-17 at the end of three.

The Trojans outscored the Jaguars 19-12 in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 36 at the end of regulation.

Both teams scored 5 points in the 1st overtime, and the score after the first OT was 41 all.

Howells-Dodge outscored Wakefield 11-4 in the 4th quarter.

Connor Blum notched 17 points while Caden Jackson had 11. Lane Hegemann added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds while Dax VanLengen posted 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Head Coach Cole Fischer. "It was hard to get any flow offensively for both teams. We struggled at the FT line and found a way to win."

The Jaguars (12-10) take on Lutheran High Northeast (16-4) on the road Friday night to end the regular season.

The Eagles are coming off a 62-50 home win over Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday.

This would be a huge and monumental win for Howells-Dodge, in my opinion.

LHNE appears to be the real deal.

This game will definitely prepare the Jaguars for sub-districts though.

The Jaguars have the play-in game with Stanton in the C2-4 Sub-District at Norfolk Catholic Monday night.

I think this game with the Eagles will give Howells-Dodge an idea of just how good and tough the sub-district is.

The Jaguars could have the tall task of upsetting Battle Creek on Tuesday though.

I really do think this game with LHNE will be a good measuring stick for Howells-Dodge to see where they stand in the sub-district.

Yes the Jaguars are the 4 seed, but I think Howells-Dodge is a better team than what a 4 seed would indicate.

I fully expect Howells-Dodge to compete well the rest of the season, and keep things close and respectable with the Eagles Friday night.

This is a big, key game for the Jaguars in terms of confidence and momentum heading into sub-districts.

Howells-Dodge has to play the same good, hard nosed, and disciplined basketball they played against North Bend Central.

The Jaguars can beat anyone in their sub-district if they play like they did against the Tigers, in my opinion.

There's a lot of talent on this Howells-Dodge team, and I don't expect the Jaguars to go down quietly or without a fight.

I look for Howells-Dodge to show and play with a lot of might and fight Friday night and in sub-districts.

I think you will see the Jaguars play at a high level until their season ends.

The Howells-Dodge Girls Basketball Team won 55-42 over Lutheran High Northeast in the C2-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night to keep their season alive.

Both teams scored 13 points in the 1st quarter. The Jaguars outscored the Eagles 11-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-18 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to go up 38-31 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored LHNE 17-11 in the 4th quarter.

Macey Kulhanek poured in 27 points while Erin Prusa posted 12.

Very impressive win for Howells-Dodge, in my opinion. The Jaguars definitely have come to play this postseason.

Howells-Dodge (12-11) takes on Stanton (21-3) in the C2-4 Sub-District Final at Norfolk Catholic Thursday night.

The Mustangs won 45-27 over Battle Creek in the Semifinals Tuesday night.

Stanton defeated the Jaguars 56-50 at home on December 1st.

That game was close, and I fully expect Thursday night's game to be close too.

A Howells-Dodge win would not totally surprise me.

The Jaguars are very capable of beating the Mustangs, in my opinion.

I think Kulhanek and Prusa are the key though.

Those two need to have huge games again for Howells-Dodge to be successful.

There's no doubt the Jaguars can compete, do well in, and win this game though.

Howells-Dodge just has to play hard, smart, physical, and put their minds to it.

The Jaguars have to come through with clutch plays down the stretch.

I think a fast start and a strong finish are vital to a Howells-Dodge win.

The Jaguars can't afford to run into a buzzsaw at the beginning of the game, and fall off at the end.

Howells-Dodge has to play consistently good basketball for 4 quarters to give themselves a chance in this one.

If the Jaguars can lead after the 3rd quarter or stay within 5 or 6 points until the midway point of the 4th quarter they may have a shot at the upset.

I fully expect there to be plenty of energy and enthusiasm amongst the Jaguar players.

I'm sure Howells-Dodge wants this one badly, and would like to prolong their season and reign as defending Class C-2 State Champions as long as possible.

The Jaguars couldn't ask for a better opportunity than what they have in front of them.

It's a chance to knock off a great team, and advance to a district final.

Howells-Dodge really couldn't ask for more at this point.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
