BRLD Girls down Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in regular season finale; top Omaha Nation in first game of Sub-Districts
The BRLD Girls won 67-44 at home over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the regular season finale Friday night before downing Omaha Nation 67-34 in the C2-4 Sub-District Semifinals at West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.
The Wolverines led the Raiders 13-6 after one before outscoring LV/SS 22-5 in the second quarter to take a 35-11 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the third quarter 19-17 to extend their lead to 54-28 at the end of three.
The Raiders notched 16 points in the third quarter compared to 13 for the Wolverines.
Lexie Bacon and Sophia Henneman had 15 points apiece to lead the way while Justice Johnson and Tess Nottleman totaled 8 and 7, respectively.
BRLD led the Chiefs 12-8 after one before outscoring Omaha Nation 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 27-10 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines won the third quarter 19-13 to go up 46-23 at the end of three.
BRLD put up 21 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for the Chiefs.
Bacon led the way with 16 points while Nottleman registered 14 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Henneman recorded 12 points while Tiahna Bonneau posted 8 rebounds.
Head Coach Rod Peters says his team played well offensively. "I thought we did a good job of executing on the offensive end. I also thought we did a good job of pushing the tempo."
Peters adds Henneman is just one of many players on the team capable of being a contributor. "The last two games Sophia has come off the bench and shot the ball really well. At this time of year we need to have girls step up and I feel we have had numerous girls do that."
The Wolverines (16-8) take on Ponca (19-4) in the Sub-District Final Thursday night.
The Indians beat Homer 56-32 Tuesday evening.
The two teams met at BRLD on December 22nd with the Wolverines winning 63-59.
Peters believes his team will be ready to go. "I am really confident that we will come to play on Thursday night. We will have to execute on the offensive and defensive end because they are a very quality team."
Peters adds his squad has to play hard and good defense. "One key is limiting their looks on the offensive end. Another key to our success is effort. If we bring high energy and effort. I do believe we will be successful."
I think the Wolverines have a good chance to knock off the Indians again, but BRLD has to bring it.
The Wolverines can't afford to play the way they did against Wisner-Pilger and Howells-Dodge the second time around if they hope to come away with a win.
The good news is I think BRLD has gotten back on track and is back to their old good selves.
Henneman stepping up and playing well lately has been big for this team, in my opinion.
I feel she's really made a difference as of late and needs to continue to do so for the Wolverines to move on.
It would be pretty neat to see BRLD and Oakland-Craig in a District Final if it all works out.
I think the Wolverines are going to need to play the same way they did the first time around to come away with a win in this second matchup.
BRLD's offense has to be just as good as it was the first time around, if not better, and the defense needs to step up also.
I think defense could be key in this game as well.
If one team can slow down the other and get their offense going, it could be lights out for their opponent.
I feel the Wolverines can win this game and get the job done. They just have to come ready to play for 32 minutes.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
