Wisner-Pilger Girls end year with Sub-District loss to Battle Creek

The Wisner-Pilger Girls saw their year come to an end Monday night as the Gators lost 45-39 to Battle Creek in the C2-7 Sub-District Play-In Game at Norfolk Catholic.

Wisner-Pilger doubled up the Braves 14-7 in the first quarter, and won the second quarter 13-10 to take a 27-17 lead into the locker room.

Battle Creek tripled up the Gators 12-4 in the third quarter to make it a 31-29 game at the end of three in favor of Wisner-Pilger.

The Braves doubled up the Gators 16-8 in the fourth quarter.

The game started so promising for Wisner-Pilger, but the second half did not treat the Gators kindly.

Wisner-Pilger ends the year at 9-14.

I thought the Gators did well at the end of the season to build some confidence and momentum for next season.

Wisner-Pilger picked up big wins over BRLD, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, and Clarkson/Leigh to end the regular season.

The Gators only graduate one senior in Krista Ott...that is it.

She will be sorely missed, but Wisner-Pilger brings back the likes of Ariel Meyer, Ashley Brahmer, Alexis Heller, Ashton Meyer, Maci Batenhorst, Jordan Wegner, and Cassidy Gooch.

Plenty of talent returns for the Gators, and I feel Wisner-Pilger has the potential to be really good next year.

These girls have to have good and productive offseasons, and must work as hard as possible day in and day out to improve though.

I know a lot of these girls are involved in Volleyball, and perhaps Track as well, but the more time they can devote to basketball, the better they will be next winter.

Champions aren't made from November to March, they are made from April to October.

A break from the game isn't always the worst thing, but when the time comes, it's important for the Gators' players to work hard on things in all aspects of the game.

The more basketball these girls play this offseason the better they will be next season.

It has to be a daily commitment and grind for these players. They must be willing to put the work in to be successful next season.

Success and glory doesn't come without hard work and sacrifice so these girls have to be ready to grow and enhance as players and as young ladies this spring, summer, and this coming fall.

I look for Wisner-Pilger to have a big season in 2017-2018.
