Stanton Boys beat Clarkson/Leigh and Pender
The Stanton Boys won 68-52 at home over Clarkson/Leigh Thursday night, and 62-49 at home over Pender on Saturday.
The Mustangs led the Patriots 16-15 after one. Stanton outscored Clarkson/Leigh 28-8 in the second quarter to take a 44-23 lead into the locker room.
The Mustangs won the third quarter 16-12 to go up 60-35 at the end of three.
The Patriots put up 17 points in the fourth quarter compared to 8 for Stanton.
Myles Nickolite led the way with 27 points and 7 rebounds while Nate Arens chipped in 9 points. Trey Erbst, Henry Bohac, and Hunter Stallbaum chipped in 8 apiece.
The Mustangs got out to a 19-14 lead on the Pendragons at the end of one. Pender doubled up Stanton 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead into the locker room.
The Mustangs won the third quarter 16-12 to go up 41-38 at the end of three.
Stanton outscored the Pendragons 21-11 in the fourth quarter.
Nickolite notched 17 points and 8 rebounds while Erbst and Stallbaum registered 12 and 10 points, respectively.
These were two good wins for the Mustangs. Stanton's scorers finally made big contributions.
The Mustangs (6-14) take on Emerson-Hubbard (2-19) on the road Friday night.
The Pirates lost 89-66 at home to Walthill this past Friday night.
That's not all that bad of a loss for Emerson-Hubbard given how good the Blujays are.
With that said, the Pirates have lost to Pender twice so Stanton should be able to win.
Nickolite, Stallbaum, Bohac, and Erbst have to show up and play good games for the Mustangs again.
I honestly expected all of them to do more than they have this year.
Nickolite has been the only real consistent one this year along with Erbst perhaps.
Better late than never though for Stanton, who is in the light portion of their schedule.
The Mustangs need to dominate Friday night's game in a big way to gain momentum for Sub-Districts next week.
I feel Stanton has vastly underachieved this year, and should be much better than they are.
The Mustangs have a date with a surging Wisner-Pilger team on Monday so Stanton must play well against Emerson-Hubbard to give themselves a good chance to knock off the Gators, in my opinion.
Friday night's game can't be just another game for the Mustangs.
Stanton has to come out and play hard and with a purpose, and take it to the Pirates for 32 minutes.
It's getting down to the nitty gritty for the Mustangs, and it's nice to see Stanton start to finally win some games.
Hopefully the Mustangs can continue their recent success Friday night.
