Clarkson/Leigh Boys go 1-3 in final four regular season games; Girls 2-1 in last three

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys went 1-3 in their final four regular season games, knocking off Tekamah-Herman 55-45 in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game at Howells-Dodge last Friday night, falling 51-38 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Tuesday night, losing 68-52 at Stanton Thursday night, and dropping a 50-43 decision at Wisner-Pilger Friday night.

The Tigers doubled up the Patriots 18-9 in the first quarter. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 12-11 to make it a 29-21 game at halftime.

The Patriots doubled up Tekamah-Herman 16-8 in the third quarter to tie the game at 37 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Tigers 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Bruhn led the Patriots with 17 points and 8 rebounds while Blake Paprocki and Garrett Schroeder totaled 12 and 10 points, respectively. Luiz Mayorga added 8 points and 11 rebounds.

The Raiders jumped out to a 20-4 lead on the Patriots at the end of one. LV/SS won the second quarter 9-8 to make it a 29-12 game at halftime.

The Patriots outscored the Raiders 13-9 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 13 at 38-25 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Paprocki had 14 points and 7 rebounds while Bruhn registered 8 points and 8 rebounds Schroeder totaled 7 points while Bradley Bunner recorded 9 rebounds.

The Mustangs led the Patriots 16-15 after one. Stanton outscored Clarkson/Leigh 28-8 in the second quarter to take a 44-23 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the third quarter 16-12 to go up 60-35 at the end of three.

The Patriots put up 17 points in the fourth quarter compared to 8 for Stanton.

Bruhn led the way with 21 points while Paprocki added 10.  Haden Held scored 9 while Bunner totaled 7. Schroeder notched 7 rebounds.

The Gators doubled up the Patriots 16-8 in the first quarter. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 10-9 to make it a 25-18 game at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger outscored the Patriots 21-8 in the third quarter to lead 46-26 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh notched 17 points in the fourth quarter and limited the Gators to 4.

Paprocki finished with 14 points while Held totaled 9. Bunner chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds while Bruhn registered 7 points.

I thought the Patriots did a nice job beating Tekamah-Herman, and made a nice comeback against Wisner-Pilger.

Clarkson/Leigh (2-19) battles Emerson-Hubbard (2-20) in the D1-4 Sub-District Play-in-Game at Wisner-Pilger Monday night.

The Pirates lost 70-28 at home to Stanton Friday night.

I think the Patriots are going to win given the way they've played over the last month or so.

I feel this Clarkson/Leigh team is stronger than they were at the beginning of the season, and are primed and ready to take this Sub-District game from Emerson-Hubbard.

The Pirates are still fully capable of winning, but I give the edge to the Patriots in this game.

I look for Bruhn, Paprocki, Held, Bunner, Schroeder, and perhaps Mayorga to have big games for Clarkson/Leigh.

I feel the Patriots are good and talented enough to knock off Emerson-Hubbard.

Waiting is #1 seed Walthill, and beating them might be super tough, but Clarkson/Leigh plays a tough and challenging schedule, so if the Patriots can get past the Pirates perhaps they can hang with the Blujays.

Clarkson/Leigh has to play up to their capability and potential, and hang around as long as they can in the postseason.

It's that time of year when anything can happen so the Patriots have to gear up and get ready for, and believe they can make a run.

Clarkson/Leigh has to play optimistic basketball, and continue to fight and play hard until the final whistle.

The Patriots have to make smart decisions with the basketball, and play together.

Clarkson/Leigh can't play as individuals or for themselves. The Patriots have to play for one another, working towards a common goal, which is to win.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls are 2-1 over their last three games, knocking off Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 54-33 at home Tuesday night, upsetting Stanton 38-33 on the road Thursday night, before falling 37-32 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.

The Patriots doubled up LV/SS 10-5 in the first quarter before winning the second quarter 12-9 to take a 22-14 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots tripled up the Raiders 12-4 in the third quarter to go up 34-18 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored LV/SS 20-15 in the fourth quarter.

Hannah Kasik had a game-high 30 points while Kaegan Held and Ashlynn Novotny registered 9 and 8, respectively.

The Patriots and Mustangs were tied at 5 at the end of one. Stanton doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 6-3 in the second quarter to take an 11-8 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots tripled up the Mustangs 18-6 in the third quarter to go up 26-17 at the end of three.

Stanton won the fourth quarter 16-12.

Held finished with a game-high 10 points while Shelby Paprocki totaled 9. Halee Steffenmeier added 8 while Kasik chipped in 7.

Clarkson/Leigh continued their upset ways against the Mustangs. I would call the Patriots the "upset queens."

Clarkson/Leigh (9-12) takes on Pender (17-7) in the D1-4 Sub-District at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Pendragons upset Stanton 40-32 in overtime on the road Saturday.

The two teams met on December 15th at Clarkson/Leigh with Pender winning 51-33.

I know most people are probably anticipating a GACC/Pender Sub-District Final, but don't count out the Patriots.

Clarkson/Leigh has beaten Twin River and Stanton this year, and must be viewed as a legitimate postseason threat.

This is a tough Sub-District to be in and draw for the Patriots, but Clarkson/Leigh probably will not accept defeat.

The ultimate goal has to be make state and win it so if the Patriots lose to the Pendragons they will no doubt have a sour taste in their mouth.

The thing we must all remember though is Clarkson/Leigh is still very young and has only one senior.

So even if the Patriots lose to Pender they will have at least gotten some good postseason experience.

The ultimate goal is to win obviously, but it's not going to be easy.

The Pendragons are a senior laden team that know how to win the tough, close games so you can bet Pender will be on top of their game.

I think the Patriots will be on top of their game too so this should be a really close and entertaining ball game.

I feel the game can go either way.

Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m.
