Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose to Twin River in East Husker Conference Tournament
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys nearly pulled off the upset of Twin River on the road in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Saturday night, but wound up losing 52-47.
The Titans led the Patriots 14-12 after one before outscoring Clarkson/Leigh 21-9 in the second quarter to take a 35-21 lead into the locker room.
The Patriots won the third quarter 12-10 to make it a 45-33 game at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh doubled up Twin River 14-7 in the fourth quarter.
Anthony Bruhn paced the Patriots with 16 points while Bradley Bunner notched 11 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Haden Held and Blake Paprocki registered 8 and 7 points, respectively.
I thought Clarkson/Leigh played a great game. This team is really starting to come around and turn the corner, in my opinion.
The Patriots (1-16) battle Tekamah-Herman (0-13) in a consolation game in the tournament at Howells-Dodge Friday night.
The Tigers lost 64-22 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the first round of the tournament Saturday night.
Clarkson/Leigh downed Tekamah-Herman 42-35 on the road Thursday night.
I think the Patriots have a great chance of winning given how they've played lately.
I don't think there's any doubt Clarkson/Leigh played their best game of the year against Twin River on Saturday.
With that said, the Patriots can't be too overconfident and have to remain focused.
You can bet the Tigers will come ready to play and be fighting their hardest to win their first game so Clarkson/Leigh can't have any mental lapses.
The way the Patriots played at the end of the game the first time these two teams met might be a little cause for concern for Clarkson/Leigh, but given the way the Patriots played against the Titans, they should be able to win their second game of the season Friday night.
I think the biggest difference in Clarkson/Leigh's play lately has been the emergence of Bradley Bunner.
I notice his stats have been more impressive the last couple of games, especially against Twin River.
Held also had a nice game against the Titans.
Bruhn and Paprocki have been two of the more consistent players for the Patriots this year I would say, but when all four of these players are on, Clarkson/Leigh can be tough.
The Patriots just have to go out there and have fun Friday night. You only get one shot at a high school basketball over a four year period, and these players, and seniors especially, have to go out there and make the most of it.
Clarkson/Leigh has to be excited to take on Tekamah-Herman, and be ready to go at it hard for 32 minutes.
The Patriots have to give the Tigers all they, and hope their efforts are good enough to beat Tekamah-Herman for a second time this season.
