Oakland-Craig Girls defeat Clarkson/Leigh in EHC Consolation Game
The Oakland-Craig Girls won 48-36 over Clarkson/Leigh in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game at Twin River Thursday night.
The Knights got out to a 13-9 lead at the end of one before outscoring the Patriots 13-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-17 lead into the locker room.
Clarkson/Leigh won the third quarter 10-4 to make it a 30-27 game at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig doubled up the Patriots 18-9 in the fourth quarter.
Dacey Nelson led the way with 18 points while Kennedy Benne and Shannon Pille added 10 points apiece. Benne also chipped in 7 rebounds.
This was a good, solid win for the Knights. A good way to bounce back following the upset loss to West Point-Beemer.
Oakland-Craig (10-6) hosts Fremont Bergan (13-5) Tuesday night.
Bergan knocked off Omaha Christian Academy 66-18 at home Friday night.
This is an interesting battle with both teams being in the same sub district.
This is an important game for Oakland-Craig, and I think Oakland-Craig needs this game more than Bergan.
Oakland-Craig needs it so they can have a mental edge over Bergan should the two teams meet in sub-districts.
The sub-district showdown would obviously be the more important game, but whoever wins this game could have a decided advantage come the postseason.
Nelson, Benne, and Pille have to go off like they did against Clarkson/Leigh, and Oakland-Craig needs to continue to play strong defense.
The Patriots aren't a bad team at all, and I think that win probably gave Oakland-Craig a confidence boost.
Now it's a matter of Oakland-Craig using the momentum they gained in that game, and carrying in over to the Bergan game.
This is the last time these seniors will ever play on their home court so Oakland-Craig has to make it a night to remember.
A win over Bergan Tuesday and a win at West Point-Beemer Friday would put Oakland-Craig in a good position to make a postseason run, in my opinion.
