West Point-Beemer Boys fall at home to Oakland-Craig
The West Point-Beemer Boys fell 64-46 at home to Oakland-Craig Friday night.
The Knights led 17-12 at the end of one, and outscored the Cadets 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 39-24 lead into the locker room.
Oakland-Craig won the third quarter 12-11 to go up 51-35 at the end of three.
The Knights put up 13 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for West Point-Beemer.
Chase Streeter led the Cadets with 16 points while Blake Anderson totaled 11 points and 8 rebounds. Tate Ernesti chipped in 10 points while Austin Streeter secured 12 rebounds.
This was a tough loss for West Point-Beemer as Oakland-Craig really came to play.
West Point-Beemer (11-12) returns to action on Friday, battling Fremont Bergan (5-15) on the road.
The Knights knocked off Guardian Angels Central Catholic 67-55 at home on Saturday.
Bergan may be 5-15, but I feel they're a much better team than their record.
The Knights have been a fixture at the state tournament over the years, and they're not going to be easy to beat, especially on their home floor.
With that said, the Cadets play strong defense and should be very confident in their abilities.
West Point-Beemer is the bigger school, and should be ready to give Bergan all they can handle and then some.
I'm sure the Cadets would like to be .500 heading into Sub-Districts, and a win over the Knights would give them a boost of confidence heading into the postseason next week, in my opinion.
This is a big game and a big deal for West Point-Beemer.
To beat a team that has been a powerhouse for quite a while now would huge, in my opinion.
The Cadets are the #2 seed in next week's C1-7 Sub-District at Norfolk regardless of how this one turns out, but West Point-Beemer should be concerned with Bergan, and only Bergan, right now.
The Cadets can focus on Pierce after the game against the Knights.
I think West Point-Beemer has a chance to make a little run here at the end of the season.
I feel the Cadets are capable of beating Bergan, Pierce, and whoever they would play in the Sub-District Final next Thursday to get to a District Final.
Next year figures to be West Point-Beemer's year, but who's to say the Cadets can't do something this year?
West Point-Beemer has played well at times this year, and if the Cadets can get their offense figured out, they could be a tough out the rest of the way.
