West Point-Beemer Girls fall to Oakland-Craig in regular season finale
The West Point-Beemer Girls dropped their regular season finale Friday night, losing 57-47 at home to Oakland-Craig.
Oakland-Craig led 12-11 after one before outscoring the Cadets 16-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room.
The Knights won the third quarter 13-12 to go up 41-34 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig put up 16 points in the fourth quarter compared to 13 for West Point-Beemer.
The Knights' Dacey Nelson led all scorers with 29 points and posted 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Kennedy Benne chipped in 11 points.
The Cadets were led by Senior Bethany Anderson, who tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Brittney Hinkel added 14 points while Makenna Weddle posted 7. Brooke Haase assisted with 9 rebounds.
The Knights were prepared for and got the best of West Point-Beemer this time around after losing to the Cadets in the regular season.
West Point-Beemer (8-16) takes on Wayne (17-6) in the C1-7 Sub-District at Norfolk High Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils topped Arlington 42-35 on the road Friday night.
The two teams met on January 26th in Wayne with the Blue Devils winning 58-53.
I look for the Cadets to play a good game and challenge Wayne.
The regular season matchup was close, and you can bet things will be close this time around too.
West Point-Beemer has to come out rarin and ready to go. The Cadets have to bring the lunch pail to work with them, and play with toughness, fire, grit tenacity, pride, passion, and heart.
West Point-Beemer has to play with the Heart of a Champion, and leave everything out on the floor Tuesday night.
This is Anderson's last go around in the postseason so she has to show up big for the Cadets.
West Point-Beemer has to play smart and aggressive basketball, and can't be afraid to attack the basket consistently.
The Cadets also have to play to win and not play not to lose.
West Point-Beemer has to believe in themselves and one another, and leave it all out on the floor.
These girls have to play together and for one another, and go at it hard for 32 minutes.
This is a pretty tough Sub-District and this is not an easy draw for the Cadets, and given how West Point-Beemer finished the regular season, one has to figure this will not be an easy game for the Cadets.
With that said, it's the postseason and anything can happen, especially considering West Point-Beemer has been to two straight district finals.
Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
