Oakland-Craig Boys down West Point-Beemer to end regular season

The Oakland-Craig Boys won 64-46 at West Point-Beemer last Friday night to end the regular season.

The Knights led 17-12 at the end of one, and outscored the Cadets 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 39-24 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig won the third quarter 12-11 to go up 51-35 at the end of three.

The Knights put up 13 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for West Point-Beemer.

Oakland-Craig was led by Carter Thiele, who notched 20 points and 12 rebounds to secure a double-double. Garrett Seagren added 19 points and 7 rebounds while Kobe Benne and Tyson Harney posted 11 and 9 points, respectively.

Head Coach Aaron Meyer says his team turned in a good performance for the most part. "We really came out ready to play. West Point-Beemer threw just about everything at us but the kitchen sink defensively. However, I was really disappointed in how we started the second half, giving up 3 consecutive offensive rebounds that all led to scores. In the end, we tightened things up enough defensively to keep them off balance. Kobe has taken the other team's point guard out of the game for the 5th straight game. Carter was our second Knight to reach the 1000th career point mark. We are proud of him as well."

Meyer adds the win was the result of  hitting 11 threes. "Well when we come out and shoot the ball that well we're pretty tough to beat. We've done that a few times this year, and to do that at the end of the year that's a special time to peek no doubt. And if we can play defense at the same time then good things are going to happen."

The Knights (15-6) battle Omaha Brownell-Talbot (8-14) in the first round of the C2-3 Sub-District at Fort Calhoun Tuesday night.

The Raiders lost 67-51 at Omaha Concordia Friday night.

These two teams haven't met this year, but Oakland-Craig should be able to take care of business as long as they bring their A game.

The Knights are so athletic and talented, and I just don't see any way Oakland-Craig gets denied in this game.

Oakland-Craig figures to have a tough Sub-District Final so the Knights have to come out sharp and work out any postseason kinks/nerves in their first game.

I think it's a good thing Oakland-Craig got the 1 seed. The reason I say that is the Knights will have a game to kind of settle in and get ready for what the postseason is going to be like.

I think Oakland-Craig would be in a much tougher position if they were playing either Yutan or Fremont Bergan first.

Not to say Oakland-Craig couldn't beat either of those teams on Tuesday, but I think Oakland-Craig would rather see one of those teams after getting a game under their belt.

So I would say the Knights are in the best possible position they could be in at this time.

The road to Lincoln is not easy, but this Oakland-Craig team is very good, and I believe the Knights have it in them to win this Sub-District and a District Final to get down to Lincoln.

Thiele, Benne, Harney, Garrett Seagren, and Wyatt Seagren all need to show up and play well for Oakland-Craig.

The Knights have to remain hot from beyond the arc and play up to their potential this postseason.

This is crunch and go time for Oakland-Craig, and these are the moments that define a team's season.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
