Oakland-Craig Boys rout Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in EHC Tournament Quarterfinals
The Oakland-Craig Boys really took it to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the East Husker Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Logan View Tuesday night, winning 70-48.
The Knights led 17-16 at the end of one before outscoring the Bulldogs 18-11 in the second quarter to take a 35-27 lead into the locker room.
Oakland-Craig won the third quarter 17-7 to go up 52-34 at the end of three before taking the fourth quarter 18-14.
Carter Thiele led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Garrett Seagren added 20 points to go over 1,000 for his career while Kobe Benne notched 12. Seagren and Evan Reinert each chipped in 7 rebounds.
Head Coach Aaron Meyer on the win. "What a phenomenal effort by all the guys on the varsity squad, from top to bottom. For the most part, we played pretty unselfish basketball and passed the ball around. I was especially impressed with how we rebounded and looked up the floor quickly to get easy baskets. We had a defensive game plan that the guys really worked together to make work. Some of the guys were gassed after the game, and it's not because we are out of shape. They left it all out there."
The Knights (12-5) take on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (13-4) in the Tournament Semifinals at North Bend Friday night.
The Raiders knocked off Madison 72-29 in the Tournament Quarterfinals Tuesday night.
The two teams met at LV/SS the first game of the year with LV/SS winning 71-59.
The Raiders have won 9 in a row and 10 out of their last 11 while Oakland-Craig has captured two wins in a row and 12 out of their last 15.
Both teams are playing at an alarmingly well rate right now, and I fully expect this game to be great.
Like I mentioned in the LV/SS post, I give the edge to the Raiders, but feel the Knights can definitely win.
Oakland-Craig proved me wrong once by beating the Bulldogs, and can certainly do it again Friday night.
I thought the way Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family beat BRLD and the way the Wolverines beat the Knights meant Oakland-Craig was going to struggle against the Bulldogs, but it was the complete opposite,
And now we're in a situation where I'll compare the Knights and Raiders against North Bend Central.
Oakland-Craig lost 72-62 to the Tigers while LV/SS knocked off North Bend Central 55-45.
The Raiders were at home though while the Knights were on the road so that makes a big difference, in my opinion.
I think Oakland-Craig has an advantage in that they have already played at North Bend this year.
We'll see what happens, but I'm still sticking with my pick of LV/SS.
I'm going to say LV/SS and North Bend Central in the championship, and the Knights and Wolverines in the third place game.
There's nothing wrong with the third place game either. And if Oakland-Craig and BRLD were to matchup in either game on Saturday I would give the advantage to the Knights this time around.
Friday night's game is set to start after the North Bend Central/BRLD Game, which is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. Both games can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
