Winnebago Boys beat Hastings St. Cecilia in Heartland Hoops Classic
The Winnebago Boys defeated Hastings St. Cecilia 76-61 in the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island Saturday evening thanks in large part to two dunks from David Wingett.
The Bluehawks led 19-18 after one. Winnebago won the second quarter 15-9 to go up 33-28 at halftime.
The Indians outscored Hastings St. Cecilia 27-18 in the third quarter to lead 60-46 at the end of three.
Winnebago put up 16 points in the fourth quarter compared to 15 for the Bluehawks.
Wingett led the way with 21 points while Cedrick Blackdeer and Drake Gorrin totaled 14 and 13, respectively. D'Von LaPointe added 12 while Manape Cleveland registered 11.
I thought the Indians played very well in this game. Winnebago was very assertive in this game I would say. Everyone played well, stepped up, and contributed.
The Indians (22-2) host GACC (10-12) Friday night in the regular season finale.
The Bluejays lost 67-55 at Fremont Bergan on Saturday.
GACC has looked great at times this year, but has struggled at others.
I would say Winnebago will win, but the Bluejays are capable of playing well and making a game of things.
This could also be a game the Indians win in blowout fashion though.
If Winnebago can get into the 90's in this game watch out.
This team has been very hungry and determined ever since the Ponca loss, and has played some great basketball.
Not a lot has slowed down Winnebago since that defeat, and the Indians have looked great since that time, in my opinion.
Winnebago has to continue to play well and keep the ball rolling though.
The Indians have to stay hungry, focused, and determined.
Winnebago has to keep their eye on the prize, which is another state title, and play up to their potential against the Bluejays.
The Indians have to treat every game as if it is their last because the season is winding down, and soon everything will be over.
Winnebago has a tough road ahead in the postseason so the Indians have to do everything they can to blowout the teams they're capable of blowing out.
Winnebago has to come ready to play against GACC, and has to prepare to take the Bluejays' best shot.
