West Point-Beemer Boys 3-1 in last four games; Girls 1-2 in last three

The West Point-Beemer Boys have been playing some good basketball lately as they are 3-1 in their last three games.

The Cadets lost 62-43 to North Bend Central on the road in the East Husker Conference Tournament Quarterfinals last Tuesday night before defeating Madison 56-35 in an EHC Tournament Consolation Game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night. West Point-Beemer then knocked off Pierce 47-46 at home Monday night before downing Madison 50-40 at home Tuesday night.

The Cadets jumped on the Tigers early, staking claim to a 14-10 lead at the end of one. North Bend Central bounced back in the second quarter though, winning the frame 15-8 to lead 25-22 at halftime.

From there on it was all Tigers as North Bend Central outscored West Point-Beemer 17-9 in the third quarter to lead 42-31 at the end of three before outlasting the Cadets 20-12 in the fourth quarter.

Chase Streeter led West Point-Beemer with 18 points.

In the first matchup between the two teams, the Dragons led 10-9 after one. The Cadets outscored Madison 21-14 in the second quarter to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer won the third quarter 11-6 to go up 41-30 at the end of three.

The Cadets tripled up the Dragons 15-5 in the fourth quarter.

Blake Anderson led the way with 19 points while Austin Streeter registered 12 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Chase Streeter added 8 rebounds.

The Bluejays got out to a 12-10 lead after the first quarter. Pierce won the second quarter 15-14 to go up 27-24 at halftime.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Bluejays 8-2 in the third quarter to lead 32-29 at the end of three.

Pierce outscored the Cadets 17-15 in the fourth quarter.

Tate Ernesti led the way with 15 points while Austin Streeter and Chase Streeter recorded 11 and 10, respectively.

In the second matchup between the two teams, West Point-Beemer led Madison 16-11 after one, and outscored the Dragons 12-3 in the second quarter to take a 28-14 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets won the third quarter 11-6 to go up 39-20 at the end of three.

Madison put up 20 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for West Point-Beemer.

Austin Streeter led the way with 16 points while Chase Streeter totaled 13 points and 16 rebounds, good enough for a double-double.

The Cadets have played great basketball in recent games. West Point-Beemer is starting to put things together, in my opinion.

The Cadets (11-11) host Oakland-Craig (14-6) Friday night.

Oakland-Craig is coming off a 65-58 win in overtime at home over Fremont Bergan Tuesday night.

The Knights are also playing good basketball right now as they have won two in a row and four out of their last five.

This should be a great game between two good teams.

I feel Oakland-Craig is more explosive on offense, but I think West Point-Beemer plays better defense.

I think the Knights will score enough and play good enough defense to find a way to win though.

It may be ugly, it might not be pretty, but when it's all said and done I look for Oakland-Craig to find a way to come out on top.

The Cadets can definitely win though, they just need the Streeter boys to play well, and for other players like Anderson and Ben Vander Griend to step up and score as well.

I could see West Point-Beemer being a little worn down given the fact this is their third game this week, but now is not the time of year to be sluggish and tired.

The Cadets have to suck it up and be tough physically and mentally.

The Knights played an overtime game Tuesday night, and played Saturday as well, so they may not be exactly fresh.

We'll find out which team is in better shape and better conditioned.

West Point-Beemer has to want it more than Oakland-Craig, and must find some intestinal fortitude to grind out a win if they can.

The Cadets must also control the pace of the game, and try and slow down the Knights' speed.

Oakland-Craig is crazy athletic and talented, and watching them in person makes you wonder how far they can go in the postseason.

West Point-Beemer would like to provide a bump in the road for the Knights though I'm sure.

The game will be aired on 107.9 the Bull after the Girls game, which is scheduled to start at 6:00.

The West Point-Beemer Girls are 1-2 in their last three games, falling 52-46 to BRLD in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night, losing 69-45 at home to Pierce Monday night, but rebounding to beat Madison 64-25 at home Tuesday night.

The Wolverines led the Cadets 13-7 after one before West Point-Beemer outscored BRLD 13-9 in the second quarter to make it a 22-20 game at halftime in favor of the Wolverines.

BRLD won the third quarter 17-14 to go up 39-34 at the end of three and put up 13 points in the fourth quarter compared to 12 for the Cadets.

Andrea Hoffman had a team-high 9 points while Brittney Hinkel totaled 8 points and 8 rebounds. Bethany Anderson and Megan Groth added 8 points apiece while Makenna Weddle notched 7. Brooke Haase posted 9 rebounds while Kendra Paasch added 7.

The Bluejays spurted out to a 19-13 lead on West Point-Beemer at the end of one before winning the second quarter 14-13 to go up 33-26 at halftime.

Pierce outscored the Cadets 20-7 in the third quarter to take a commanding 53-33 lead at the end of three.

The Bluejays put up 16 points in the fourth quarter compared to 12 for West Point-Beemer.

Hinkel had a team-high 14 points while Anderson and Abbey Dale scored 10 and 8, respectively.

The Cadets jumped out to a 15-6 lead on the Dragons at the end of one. West Point-Beemer outscored Madison 12-3 in the second quarter to take a 27-9 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets won the third quarter 21-9 to go up 48-18 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer put up 16 points in the fourth quarter compared to 7 for Madison.

Anderson had a game-high 21 points and 8 rebounds while Hoffman registered 9 points. Haase added 9 rebounds.

The Cadets did a good job bouncing back against the Dragons after losing to the Wolverines and Bluejays.

West Point-Beemer (8-15) hosts Oakland-Craig (11-6) Friday night in the regular season finale.

Oakland-Craig knocked off Fremont Bergan 51-40 at home Tuesday night.

The Cadets topped the Knights 61-49 in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Friday, January 27th in Oakland.

You can bet the Knights will be out for revenge, which means West Point-Beemer has to be ready to bring it.

As good a job as the Cadets did on Dacey Nelson the first time the two teams played, they're going to need to do an even better job on her this time around to slow her down again I would say.

West Point-Beemer also has to be conscious of Oakland-Craig's role players going off for a lot of points.

It's never easy for a team to beat another team twice in the same season, and the Cadets certainly have their work cut out for them in this one.

If West Point-Beemer can play the way they did the first time around they should have a good chance to win though.

It's all about the Cadets being consistent, in my opinion.

West Point-Beemer will play a really good game one night, and then really struggle the next.

The Cadets are a mirror image of Jekyll and Hyde is the easiest way to put it.

Hopefully West Point-Beemer has another good performance left in the tank though because they could really use it, especially heading into next week's Sub-District Game with Wayne.

It's down to the very end for the Cadets pretty much, and time is running out to find success.

West Point-Beemer really needs this game if they hope to have any shot to upset the Blue Devils I would say.

I think a loss to the Knights would be a real downer for the Cadets, but a win would be a good confidence and assurance booster that West Point-Beemer can beat a good team more than once.

Friday night's game will be aired on 107.9 the Bull beginning at 6:00.
