Tekamah-Herman Girls go 1-2 in final three games

The Tekamah-Herman Girls closed out the regular season with a 46-38 loss at home to North Bend Central last Friday night before beating Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 53-21 in the C1-6 Sub-District Play-In Game Monday night, and falling 65-47 to Fort Calhoun in the Sub-District Semifinals Tuesday night.

North Bend Central led Tekamah-Herman 11-6 at the end of one. Tekamah-Herman won the second quarter 11-7 to make it an 18-17 game at halftime.

North Bend Central outscored Tekamah-Herman 13-4 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 10 at 31-21 at the end of three.

Tekamah-Herman put up 17 points in the fourth quarter compared to 15 for North Bend Central.

The Tigers led the Raiders 16-7 at the end of one before winning the second quarter 10-4 to lead 26-11 at halftime.

Tekamah-Herman outscored the Raiders 11-5 in the third quarter to go up 37-16 at the end of three.

The Tigers put up 16 points in the fourth quarter compared to 5 for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

Jessica Fleischman led Tekamah-Herman with 19 points while Marin Jetensky notched 15.

Head Coach Scott Guzinski recognizes one of his players for a great year. "Jessica Fleischman did set the career record for rebounds at our high school. She had 828 rebounds coming into tonight's game. So that's a cool honor for her, and I just wanted to say that."

The Pioneers led the Tigers 25-11 at the end of one before doubling up Tekamah-Herman 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 37-17 lead into the locker room.

The Tigers won the third quarter 14-12 to make it a 49-31 game at the end of three.

Both teams scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Fleischman became the school's all-time leader in career points after burning the nets for 34.

It was a difficult season for Tekamah-Herman I would say, but there were some bright spots, Fleischman and Jetensky accounting for quite a few of them.

The Tigers end the year at 5-18 although I felt Tekamah-Herman was better than that.

The upset win over Twin River in the East Husker Conference Tournament had to be the highlight of the year for Tekamah-Herman.

The Tigers say goodbye to Fleischman, Sarah Stang, Carson Cameron, Kassidy Kellogg, and Maddy Horn.

These are five very talented seniors who did a lot for and meant a lot to Tekamah-Herman Girls Basketball this year and in years past.

The Tigers bring back plenty of talent though, including Jetensky, Jadyn Fleischman, Ashley Bohannon, Mya Guzinski, and others.

I think Tekamah-Herman can be good and successful in the future, but it's going to take a lot of hard work and determination on the part of the players.

These girls have to work hard and put the work in this offseason if they want to be successful next season.

Everyone has to hone their skills in all aspects of the game, and grow and improve as basketball players and as young ladies.

The Tigers figure to be made up of older and younger players next year so everyone has to get along and understand their roles, and the seniors have to be great leaders on and off the court.

Tekamah-Herman has to find success in summer camps, leagues, workouts, and other team activities they do.

It's important for these student athletes to be successful in the classroom and in life in general, as well as on the court.

The harder these girls work in the classroom and in the gym, the more successful they will be in life, in my opinion.

So I would say 2017-2018 has a chance to be better than this season was for the Tigers if everyone puts in the time.
