Emerson-Hubbard Boys lose to Pender and Walthill
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys lost 43-39 at Pender last Thursday night before falling 89-66 at home to Walthill Friday night.
The Pirates jumped out to a 13-5 lead on the Pendragons at the end of one. Pender won the second quarter 13-11 to make it a 24-18 game at halftime in favor of Emerson-Hubbard.
The Pendragons outscored the Pirates 12-9 in the third quarter to make it a 33-30 game at the end of three.
Pender put up 13 points in the fourth quarter compared to just 6 for Emerson-Hubbard.
Taylor Donner led the way with 14 points while Joshua Sebade registered 10 points and 7 rebounds. Jacob Kneifl added 8 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blujays jumped out to a 29-10 lead at the end of one. The Pirates won the second quarter 22-20 to make it a 49-32 game at halftime.
Walthill outscored Emerson-Hubbard 20-15 in the third quarter to go up 69-47 at the end of three.
The Blujays notched 20 points in the fourth quarter compared to 19 for the Pirates.
Donner and Sebade recorded 19 points apiece while Chandler Emmons totaled 11. Kneifl added 8 points and 10 rebounds while Sebade notched 8 rebounds.
I don't think Emerson-Hubbard played bad against either team. The Pirates just have to learn to both start and close games well.
Emerson-Hubbard (2-19) hosts Stanton (6-14) Friday night in the regular season finale.
The Mustangs defeated Pender 62-49 at home on Saturday.
One would think based on that score that Stanton would win, but don't count out the Pirates.
If Emerson-Hubbard can start off strong and figure out a way to finish, they could very well win.
The Mustangs are a tough team though, in my opinion. I would say they are better than their record indicates.
The Pirates have to watch out for Hunter Stallbaum, Henry Bohac, Myles Nickolite, and Trey Erbst.
Those four players are solid and can score at any given time for Stanton.
When those four are on Stanton is very tough to beat, but when they are off, the Mustangs are very beatable and vulnerable.
Emerson-Hubbard has to play offense the way they did against Walthill and defense the way they did against the Pendragons.
If the Pirates can put it all together they could come away with a win in this game.
Emerson-Hubbard is past moral victories at this point I'm sure so anything but a win would have to be considered disappointing, in my opinion.
You play to win the game, and another loss would be tough on this Pirates' team, in my opinion.
Emerson-Hubbard has Clarkson/Leigh in the D1-4 Sub-District Play-In Game at Wisner on Monday so the Pirates need something positive to happen for them heading into that game.
A win over Stanton would give this team quite a bit of confidence and momentum I feel.
This is also Emerson-Hubbard's final home game so the Pirates have to make this game as memorable as possible for the seniors.
