Tekamah-Herman Boys and Girls winless in last two games
The Tekamah-Herman Boys are 0-2 in their last two games, losing 55-45 to Clarkson/Leigh Friday night in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game at Howells-Dodge before falling 56-23 at Fort Calhoun Tuesday night.
The Tigers doubled up the Patriots 18-9 in the first quarter. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 12-11 to make it a 29-21 game at halftime.
The Patriots doubled up Tekamah-Herman 16-8 in the third quarter to tie the game at 37 at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Tigers 18-8 in the fourth quarter.
Nate Olson led the Tigers with 16 points while Dustin Pickell and Luke Wakehouse had 9 and 8, respectively.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 13-7 lead on Tekamah-Herman at the end one before outscoring the Tigers 11-5 in the second quarter to take a 24-12 lead into the locker room.
Fort Calhoun won the third quarter 14-6 to go up 38-18 at the end of three.
The Pioneers notched 18 points in the fourth quarter and held Tekamah-Herman to 5.
The Tigers had a shot to win their first game of the year against the Patriots. Unfortunately, Tekamah-Herman couldn't get the job done.
Tekamah-Herman (0-15) hosts North Bend Central (14-3) Friday night.
North Bend Central captured the East Husker Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, topping Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 53-47 in Columbus.
North Bend Central is certainly the cream of the crop in the conference while Tekamah-Herman is dead last so on paper this looks like a total mismatch.
However, there's a reason the games are played, and I fully expect Tekamah-Herman to do their best and fight hard until the very end.
It's only tough games from here on out in the regular season for Tekamah-Herman so they have to toughen up and do everything they can to give North Bend Central and others their best shot.
No one expects Tekamah-Herman to win anything the rest of this year I would imagine, but anything can happen this time of year, and that's why the Tigers have to keep working hard and improving.
Numbers and depth is a well known issue with Tekamah-Herman this year, and the Tigers are a very young team.
The experience these boys are getting this year is only going to help them in the future though, in my opinion, at least in talking about the underclassmen.
At the very least Tekamah-Herman is learning very valuable life lessons that will only help them in the future, in my opinion.
It has been a very tough season for the Tigers, but perhaps Tekamah-Herman can make strides in these last few regular season games to give themselves a chance at a win in Sub-Districts.
The season isn't over until it's over, and the Tigers have to do everything in their power to get better and try and win a game.
It may seem unlikely for Tekamah-Herman to pick up a win this year, but you never know what might be in the cards for the Tigers yet.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls are also 0-2 in their last two games, falling 56-37 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game last Thursday night, and 44-39 at Omaha Mercy Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs got out to an 11-8 lead after one. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family doubled up the Tigers 21-7 in the third quarter to take a 32-15 lead into the locker room.
The Bulldogs outscored Tekamah-Herman 13-6 in the third quarter to go up 45-21 at the end of three.
The Tigers won the fourth quarter 16-11.
The Tigers led the Monarchs 8-6 after one. Omaha Mercy outscored Tekamah-Herman 9-4 to take a 15-12 lead into the locker room.
The Monarchs won the third quarter 15-9 to go up 30-21 at the end of three.
The Tigers put up 18 points in the fourth quarter compared to 14 for Omaha Mercy.
Tekamah-Herman simply didn't do enough offensively in either game to win either contest, in my opinion.
Tekamah-Herman (4-16) hosts North Bend Central (15-4) Friday night in the regular season finale.
North Bend Central defeated Howells-Dodge 54-48 in the EHC Tournament Championship Game in Columbus on Saturday.
North Bend Central is on a roll right now, and on paper, this game looks like a mismatch, but I think Tekamah-Herman is a better team than their record.
I think this game has a chance to be closer than some might think.
North Bend Central is a very good team, and has played lights out basketball lately, but they don't have a lot of room for error.
If Tekamah-Herman plays strong defense and finds a way to get their offense going, they could win.
A win over North Bend Central would do wonders for Tekamah-Herman's confidence heading into the postseason, in my opinion.
Tekamah-Herman's Sub-District is wide open as far as I'm concerned, and I think the Tigers have what it takes to make a postseason run.
The Mercy loss had to be tough, but Tekamah-Herman has to put it behind them and forget about it.
Tekamah-Herman has to be mentally and physically tough, and do what they can to bounce back Friday night.
It's the last time these seniors will ever play at home so they have to make the most of it.
North Bend Central is a very tough team, but they can be beat, although given the way both teams are playing right now it seems like a very tall task for Tekamah-Herman to say the least.
With that said, Tekamah-Herman has to rise up and play an outstanding game Friday night.
Tekamah-Herman has to give North Bend Central their best shot and everything they can handle and want and more if they want to gain any confidence and momentum for the postseason, in my opinion.
