West Point-Beemer Girls end season with Sub-District loss to Wayne
The season came to an end for the West Point-Beemer Girls last Tuesday night as the Cadets fell 55-45 to Wayne in the C1-7 Sub-District at Norfolk High.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 12-10 lead after one before outscoring the Cadets 11-6 in the second quarter to take a 23-16 lead into the locker room.
Brittney Hinkel had 19 points and 9 rebounds to pace West Point-Beemer while Bethany Anderson notched 10 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, in her final game in a Cadet uniform. Andrea Hoffman added 7 points while Abbey Dale totaled 8 rebounds.
It was a tough way for the Cadets to end the season, there's no doubt about it.
West Point-Beemer ends the year at 8-17.
Anderson led the Cadets in scoring this season with 277 points while Hinkel was second with 251.
Anderson also led the team in rebounding with 184 boards while Hinkel was second with 146.
This duo was very effective for West Point-Beemer all season long. Anderson will be missed for sure.
The highlight of the season had to be upsetting Oakland-Craig in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Friday, January 27th.
That was the Cadets' best win of the season with Wisner-Pilger and Arlington other quality wins I would say.
As I mentioned, Anderson is the only player West Point-Beemer loses to graduation.
Returning is the likes of Katie Pilakowski, Dale, Makenna Weddle, Hoffman, Hinkel, Nicole Mitzel, and Brooke Haase.
This was kind of a rebuilding year for the Cadets so you can certainly understand why they would go through some struggles and growing pains.
West Point-Beemer should be able to get back to form next year though you would think.
The Cadets were young this year, and you would think with almost everybody returning next year, they will be better in 2017-2018.
West Point-Beemer has to get after it this offseason though, shooting everyday constantly, getting in the weight room, working on agility drills, and participating in all summer leagues, camps, open gyms, and any other offseason work as much as possible.
The Cadets have to work hard if they want to get back to the top. That's not to say West Point-Beemer didn't work hard this year and last offseason, but the Cadets need to rev things up even more this offseason if they want to be more successful next season I would say.
