BRLD Boys beat Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Hastings; Girls down Raiders

The BRLD Boys Basketball Team knocked off Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 51-42 on the road Friday night before beating Class B Power Hastings 61-57 at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island on Saturday.

The Wolverines got out to a 14-5 lead on the Raiders at the end of one. Both teams scored 11 points in the 2nd quarter, and BRLD held a 25-16 lead at halftime.

The Wolverines won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to go up 40-28 at the end of three.

LVSS won the 4th quarter 14-11.

Lucas Vogt led the team with 23 points while Dylan Beutler added 15. Jaxon Johnson added 7.

BRLD got out to a 21-13 lead on the Tigers at the end of one. Hastings won the 2nd quarter 10-9 to make it a 30-23 game at halftime.

The Tigers outscored the Wolverines 17-11 in the 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to 1 at 41-40 at the end of three.

BRLD won the 4th quarter 20-17.

Darwin Snyder had a team-high 24 points while Vogt totaled 12. Beutler added 11 while Gatzemeyer notched 7.

Incredible win for the Wolverines on Saturday. BRLD may very well be undefeated back-to-back State Champs this year.

The Wolverines (22-0) round out the regular season at Pender (5-16) Friday night.

The Pendragons won 58-52 at Clarkson/Leigh in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game last Friday night.

BRLD should roll to a big win in this one you would think.

I fully expect the Wolverines to come out and play well and win big.

I would be surprised if this game wasn't a running clock in the 3rd quarter.

And that's not a knock on Pender either, it's just a testament to how good BRLD is.

The Wolverines are a great team, and this game against the Pendragons is important for BRLD to stay fresh and sharp.

It's also an opportunity to get the starters some work, but rest them and get the seniors and underclassmen who don't get much playing time some game action.

The Wolverines have to get ready to gear up for their big postseason run.

Hastings may very well be the toughest team BRLD faces and toughest game they have all year.

The game against the Tigers should have prepared the Wolverines for their big State run and quest at another State Championship.

BRLD did some major work last week, and not that the Wolverines should take Pender lightly, but this week is kind of a week where BRLD can afford to take a deep breath and get ready for the postseason.

The Wolverines should prepare the same way and be intense as they usually are, but it doesn't necessarily have to be as hardcore as preparing for Hastings or whomever.

So a lot of the work is already done, but more work lies ahead for BRLD.

The Wolverines have yet to accomplish their ultimate goal and dream of winning another State Championship.

At the end of the day, that's what matters most with this team and these kids.

Winning back-to-back State Championships would be a huge deal for this team, the coaches, the parents, the fans, and all the communities involved.

The BRLD Girls dominated Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 62-17 on the road Friday night in the regular season finale.

The Wolverines got out to a 20-2 lead at the end of one, and outscored the Raiders 17-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-11 lead into the locker room.

BRLD outscored LVSS 13-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 50-14 at the end of three.

The Wolverines quadrupled up the Raiders 12-3 in the 4th quarter.

Caragan Tietz led the team with 16 points and six steals. Isabel Freemont nailed four three-pointers for 12 points while KaiLynn Lovejoy added 11.

Very impressive and dominating performance from BRLD to end the regular season.

The Wolverines (19-4) battle GACC (20-3) in the C2-4 Sub-District Semifinals from Pender Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

GACC downed Pierce 42-30 in Thursday night's regular season finale.

BRLD beat GACC 60-50 in the Homer Holiday Tournament Championship Game on December 30th.

This ought to be a really intriguing game.

I would argue that the Bluejays are a better team now than they were then and the Wolverines aren't playing as well now as they were at that time.

Both of these teams figure to be headed to Sub-State irregardless of how the game turns out on Tuesday.

Still though you always want to win your way into Sub-State, and that's exactly what BRLD will try and accomplish Tuesday and Thursday if they get that far.

It won't be easy, but these are the types of teams the Wolverines are going to see at State if they make it that far.

To be the best, you have to beat the best.

BRLD can't be scared of or back down from GACC whatsoever.

The Wolverines know they can play with and beat the Bluejays so BRLD has to go out there and make it happen.

Beating GACC in the postseason is one of the toughest things to do though.

I fully expect the Wolverines to have a good game plan and be ready for the Bluejays though.

I feel it all starts on the defensive end of the floor for BRLD.

The Wolverines played amazing, suffocating defense on Friday against LVSS.

That's exactly the same type of defense BRLD has to play against GACC as well.

The Bluejays are a much stronger team than the Raiders, but the philosophy has to be the same.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the Bull.

The winner gets either Ponca or Homer on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in another game that will be heard on the Bull.
