Oakland-Craig Girls lose regular season finale to West Point-Beemer, beat Mead in Sub-Districts

The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team lost 59-57 at West Point-Beemer Friday night in the regular season finale in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 69-39 over Mead in the C2-2 Sub-District Semifinals at Logan View Tuesday night.

The game against the Cadets was tied at 11 at the end of the first quarter. Oakland-Craig outscored West Point-Beemer 16-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-21 lead into the locker room.

The Knights won the 3rd quarter 20-18 to go up 47-39 at the end of three.

The Cadets staged a comeback in the 4th quarter, however, holding the Knights to 6 points at one point in the quarter while taking the lead.

Oakland-Craig had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Sydney Guzinski's right wing 3-pointer was blocked as time expired.

The Knights were led by Kennedy Benne, who had a team-high 20 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Chaney Nelson added 13 points while Sadie Nelson notched 9 and Mya Guzinski totaled 7 points and 7 rebounds.

The Knights led the Raiders 15-11 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 21-17 to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig shutout Mead 22-0 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-28 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 11 points in the 4th quarter.

It took a bit, but the Knights got things going in the 3rd quarter against the Raiders.

Oakland-Craig (23-1) takes on Yutan (15-8) in Thursday night's Sub-District Final.

The Chieftains won 44-24 over Tekamah-Herman in Tuesday night's other Sub-District Semifinal.

Yutan is a good, solid team, and probably needs to pull the upset to make Sub-State.

The Knights are in Sub-State regardless of how Thursday's game goes, but you know Oakland-Craig wants to keep that number one seed.

The last thing the Knights want to do is lose to Yutan and see the number one seed go by the wayside.

Oakland-Craig has to come out and start fast and be on top of their game Thursday night.

The Knights started slow on Tuesday, and I get it, you're coming off your first loss of the season and it's the first postseason game.

But that is all behind Oakland-Craig now, and from here on out the Knights have to treat every game like Gold.

After Thursday it will be win or go home pretty much, and I'm sure Oakland-Craig has dreams of playing at Pinnacle Bank Arena come Saturday, March 7th.

That dream can certainly become a reality too, but the Knights have work to do yet.

Oakland-Craig has to come out and jump out to a big lead on the Chieftains.

The Knights have to build a big lead and force Yutan to come and play from behind.

Oakland-Craig has to be physical and has to play their game and do what they have done the entire season.

Friday night's game was an absolute thriller for me to call on the Bull, and I really enjoyed calling a barn burner between the two teams.

It was too bad someone had to lose because both teams are great.

That game is done and out of the way now and so the Knights can't worry about it or let it bother or affect them at this point.

All it did was prevent Oakland-Craig from finishing the season undefeated.

All of the Knights' other goals and aspirations and dreams of winning a State Championship are still in front of them and intact.

Thursday night's game will tip-off at 7:00.
