GACC Boys lose to Pierce, beat Fremont Bergan; Girls defeat Pierce

The GACC Boys Basketball Team lost 59-39 at Pierce Thursday night before beating Fremont Bergan 46-45 at home on Saturday.

Pierce got out to a 13-12 lead after one, and outscored GACC 17-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-23 lead into the locker room.

Pierce outscored GACC 17-4 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 47-27 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 points in the 4th quarter.

Nate Niewohner had a team-high 10 points.

GACC led Bergan 13-10 after one. The Knights won the 2nd quarter 12-7 to take a 22-20 lead into the locker room.

Bergan won the 3rd quarter 12-10 to extend their lead to 34-30 at the end of three.

The Bluejays outscored the Knights 16-11 in the 4th quarter.

Brendan Rief had 15 points while Adam Reeson notched a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Niewohner added 7 points.

Great win for GACC on Saturday.

The Bluejays (11-11) host Winnebago (8-12) Friday night in the regular season finale.

The Indians lost 79-77 to McLaughlin, SD in the Sacred Hoops Classic in Crow Creek, SD on Saturday.

Winnebago is a tough and dangerous team that can get up and down the floor and run.

I think GACC has to slow the game down and control pace in this one to be able to win.

The Indians' record may not show it, but Winnebago is a good, tough team that can play ball.

The Indians have struggled on defense this year though.

That has kind of been their downfall you could say.

So the Blujeays have to be efficient on offense and pound the ball inside to Casey Doernemann and Reeson.

I think Winnebago is kind of small in stature so GACC figures to have the size advantage in this one.

The Bluejays may not have as much as speed or athleticism at the guard positions, but GACC has to try and contain Winnebago's guards.

The Bluejays have to go out there and play a great game Friday night.

It's the last time these seniors will ever play a game on their home court.

GACC has to make this one really count.

It will be interesting to see who the Bluejays draw in Sub-Districts.

It looks like it could very well be Oakland-Craig, but we will find out for sure on Thursday.

GACC could really use another win heading into Sub-Districts.

Saturday's win was huge, and another win on Friday would be even bigger, in my opinion.

The Bluejays can definitely win and get the job done too, but it won't be easy, not by a long shot.

GACC has to come out and play their game and do their thing though and let it all hang out.

If the Bluejays do that then they should have a chance to be successful.

The GACC Girls won 42-30 at Pierce in Thursday night's regular season finale.

GACC led Pierce 20-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Both teams scored 4 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score was 24-10 at halftime.

GACC won the 3rd quarter 10-7 to extend their lead to 34-17 at the end of three.

Pierce outscored GACC 13-8 in the 4th quarter.

Brenna Rief had 15 points while Sophia Hass added 9.

Solid win for GACC to end the regular season.

The Bluejays (20-3) take on BRLD (19-4) in the C2-4 Sub-District Semifinals from Pender Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Wolverines won 62-17 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Friday night to round out the regular season.

BRLD beat GACC 60-50 in the Homer Holiday Tournament Championship Game on December 30th.

That was a long time ago though and this is now.

I feel like the Bluejays are a better team now than they were then and feel like the Wolverines might not be as strong now as they were at that time.

So I think GACC has a chance to take this one.

The Bluejays are a very tough team in the postseason, and could improve their seeding for Sub-State with a win.

GACC is likely headed to Sub-State regardless of how Tuesday's game goes, but you always want to win your way into Sub-State if at all possible.

Ponca likely awaits in Thursday's Sub-District Final, but the Bluejays have to worry about BRLD first.

The Wolverines are a very good and dangerous team that is capable of beating anyone they play.

BRLD has done some great things this year, and has played well most of the time over the course of their last three games.

The Wolverines come into this one having won three in a row.

GACC has also won three in a row so this should be a heck of a game.

I look for both teams to really get after one another Tuesday night.

I fully expect both teams to get up in one another's face and press to death.

I think whichever team can take care of the ball and create more turnovers has the best chance of winning.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the Bull.
