Pender Boys beat Clarkson/Leigh in East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game; Girls 0-3 in last three games

The Pender Boys Basketball Team won 58-52 over Clarkson/Leigh at Clarkson in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game last Friday night.

The Patriots led the Pendragons 15-9 at the end of one. Pender won the 2nd quarter 15-14 to make it a 29-24 game at halftime.

The Pendragons doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 18-9 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 42-38 at the end of three.

Pender won the 4th quarter 16-14.

Dylan Vogt had 23 points to lead the Pendragons while Jaxon Maise added 17. Spencer Rabbass was also in double figures with 13 for Pender.

Real good feel good win for the Pendragons.

Pender (5-16) rounds out the regular season next Friday when they host undefeated BRLD (20-0).

This is one of those games you probably expect there to be a running clock.

The Pendragons have to step up and compete and try and narrow the gap against these guys though.

The Wolverines are the example to follow when it comes to playing great and winning basketball.

I don't think there's any doubt that Pender would like to get to that level someday.

That's what the Pendragons are striving and hoping for I'm sure.

Pender can definitely get there in time too, but the Pendragons need to step up and play good basketball against BRLD.

Pender will have had two weeks to prepare for the Wolverines so I fully expect the Pendragons to have a great game plan.

BRLD plays Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Hastings this weekend so I'm sure they're not even thinking about the game with Pender right now.

The Pendragons have to go out there and play with pride with it being their final home game of the season.

Pender has to step up and use this game as preparation for the postseason.

The Pendragons have to come out and compete and be competitors.

Pender can't be scared of or back down from the Wolverines whatsoever.

Of course these kids all know each other really well from playing baseball together and stuff so that should help.

These kids are competitors on the court and friends off the court I am sure.

The Pendragons still have to go out there and try and win a basketball game though.

If Pender digs themselves a deep, early hole then they are in trouble.

The Pendragons need to come out and play hard and smart from the start.

Pender has to also be aggressive and must attack the rim, be physical, and take care of the ball.

The Pender Girls lost 65-39 to North Bend Central in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals last Thursday night at Midland in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before falling 54-32 to West Point-Beemer in Saturday's 3rd place game also aired on the Bull. The Pendragons then lost 58-46 to GACC in the regular season finale Tuesday night.

The Tigers used a fast start to take an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and a 41-20 lead into halftime.

NBC won the 3rd quarter 11-9 to lead 52-29 at the end of three.

The Tigers claimed the 4th quarter 13-10.

Ashley Ostrand reached the 1,000 career points milestone for the Pendragons, leading the team with 14 points on the night. Ostrand achieved the career milestone when she hit a two point bucket late in the third quarter.

The Cadets led the Pendragons 12-5 at the end of one before outscoring Pender 20-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-11 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer doubled up the Pendragons 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 44-17 at the end of three.

Pender won the 4th quarter 15-10.

The Pendragons got out to a 14-11 lead on the Bluejays at the end of one. GACC won the 2nd quarter 11-10 to make it a 24-22 game at halftime.

The Bluejays outscored Pender 21-11 in the 3rd quarter to go up 43-35 at the end of three.

GACC won the 4th quarter 15-11.

Kind of a tough way to end the regular season if you are the Pendragons, but I thought Pender played the Bluejays tough.

The Pendragons (15-10) battle Omaha Nation (11-13) in the D1-1 Sub-District Tournament at West Point-Beemer High School Tuesday night.

The Chiefs lost 51-48 at Marty, SD Thursday night.

Pender edged Omaha Nation 55-54 on the road on January 16th.

That was right before Pender got on a roll.

I would anticipate the Pendragons winning this matchup too, but it's never easy to beat the same team twice in a season.

Pender is going to have to really bring it if they want to advance to Thursday's Sub-District Final.

Right now it looks like the Pendragons are in a strong position to get to a Sub-State Final, but lose to the Chiefs and they could miss out.

I really think Pender can beat Bergan if they play them in the Sub-District Final.

The defending D-1 Champs have lost to some amazing teams though and will still be tough.

Their record may not indicate just how good they really are.

So they would be tough, but the Pendragons have to worry about taking care of business against Omaha Nation first.

Lose to the Chiefs, and the season could very well be over.

So in a way it's kind of do or die time for Pender.

The season is on the line for a lot of teams in Sub-Districts, and the Pendragons may be one of those teams.

Omaha Nation has to win or their season is for sure done.

So you can bet the Chiefs will be ready to play like there's no tomorrow because if they lose there isn't in terms of playing basketball.

This is it for Omaha Nation.

So in saying that Pender has to play with a lot of toughness and heart and a sense of urgency and purpose come Tuesday night.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
