Emerson-Hubbard Boys lose to Omaha Nation; Girls lose to Chiefs and end season with Sub-District loss to Wynot
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 75-47 at Omaha Nation Friday night.
The Chiefs got out to a 22-4 lead at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 37-15 lead into the locker room.
Omaha Nation outscored the Pirates 23-12 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 60-27 at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard won the 4th quarter 20-15.
Nolan Belt had 29 points and 9 rebounds while Hunter Schock totaled 11 points.
Good offensive scoring output from both Belt and Schock.
The Pirates (4-15) take on Stanton (4-17) on the road Friday night in the regular season finale.
The Mustangs fell 53-42 at Clarkson/Leigh last Thursday night.
This figures to be a close, interesting, and entertaining ball game to say the least.
Stanton might be at an advantage in that they are a bigger school and have played a lot of C-1 and C-2 teams, but Emerson-Hubbard has played a lot of tough teams too.
It should be a good, hard nosed, physical game that comes down to the wire.
The Pirates could really use a win heading into Sub-Districts too.
Emerson-Hubbard's season is not over until they are beaten in the postseason.
Everyone starts 0-0 next week.
The Pirates are definitely capable of making a run, especially considering what I've seen out of the Twin River and Bishop Neumann Girls in Sub-Districts.
The Titans had four wins entering Sub-Districts and have made a District Final whereas the Cavaliers made it to the Sub-District Final with four wins prior to Sub-Districts before losing to Centennial in the final.
My point is teams can never be counted out until they are officially beaten in the postseason.
You can't measure heart and you can't measure drive, determination, and will.
It's incredible what emotion and playing with energy and reckless abandonment does for you.
Well that's exactly the way Emerson-Hubbard has to play with come Friday and next week.
There is no next year for the Emerson-Hubbard Pirates.
They will be known as Emerson-Hubbard/Allen or Allen/Emerson-Hubbard next season.
This is Emerson-Hubbard's last chance to do something as the Emerson-Hubbard Pirates.
So Emerson-Hubbard can't go down quietly and without a fight.
The Pirates have to give it everything they've got right up until the very end of the season.
Anything is possible, especially in the postseason, and Emerson-Hubbard has to really believe that.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls lost 73-37 at Omaha Nation Friday night in the regular season finale before falling 64-5 to Wynot in the D2-2 Sub-District Tournament at Hartington Cedar Catholic Tuesday night.
The Chiefs quadrupled up the Pirates 16-4 in the 1st quarter, and outscored them 22-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-11 lead into the locker room.
Omaha Nation doubled up Emerson-Hubbard 26-13 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 64-24 at the end of three.
The Pirates won the 4th quarter 13-9.
Addison Mackling led the way with 24 points while Brynn Schock pulled down 9 rebounds.
Really tough way for Emerson-Hubbard's program to end Tuesday night.
The Emerson-Hubbard Pirates end their final season with a 1-19 record.
It was a really tough year this year for the Pirates.
Emerson-Hubbard just didn't have the numbers or depth to be a successful and winning team this season.
The co-op with Allen is needed, and it will be Emerson-Hubbard/Allen or Allen/Emerson-Hubbard beginning next year.
It will be interesting to see how this new co-op goes.
Allen has been combining with Wakefield in Girls Basketball in recent years, but that co-op is ceasing at the end of this season.
I'm very curious to see how things go and see what happens next year.
Things will be a lot different for the returning players next year that's for sure.
Key players lost to graduation this year include Mackling, Clara Harvey, Maddison Gunderson, and Isabella Parker-Diaz.
Key contributors coming back for next year's co-op team with Allen include Hadley Houfek, Brianna Bousquet, Shock, and Jazmin De La Torre.
I feel like all these girls can have a huge impact for the co-op team next year.
It is sad that the Emerson-Hubbard Pirates are no more for Girls Basketball.
Life must go on though as everyone simply has to adjust and adapt to the change.
I fully expect the returning players and newcomers to do just that.
It might not be easy and it may take a while for things to get settled down, but there's no doubt that this will be a good thing in the long run.
A co-op for girls athletics at Emerson-Hubbard has really been needed in recent years, and now they are finally getting one.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year and how well the new co-op team between Emerson-Hubbard and Allen does.
I have every intention of continuing the blog for that co-op too.
