Oakland-Craig Boys beat Twin River in East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game; Girls win EHC Crown, defeat Fremont Bergan

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team won 70-61 at home over Twin River Friday night in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game.

The Knights led 18-14 after one, and outscored the Titans 19-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to extend their lead to 51-37 at the end of three.

Twin River won the 4th quarter 24-19.

Colton Thomsen led the way with 14 points while Caden Nelson had 9. Jaron Meyer added 9 points and 8 rebounds while Wyatt Seagren and Coulter Thiele notched 8 points apiece. Gunnar Ray tallied 7 points.

Great win for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig (15-7) rounds out the regular season at West Point-Beemer (4-17) Friday night in action that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Cadets won 65-62 at Madison Tuesday night.

This should be a win for the Knights.

West Point-Beemer will most likely play tough and give Oakland-Craig all they got.

It's the regular season finale for the Knights though so Oakland-Craig has to step up and play great basketball.

The Knights will have been off for an entire week, but I don't know if that will have any effect on Oakland-Craig or not.

The Knights should be well rested for the game and well rested for Sub-Districts if anything.

Oakland-Craig could really use a big win Friday night to end the regular season on a high note.

I would expect the Knights to win by double digits, but you never know.

The Cadets are a very young team and have a first year Head Coach.

It has been a struggle for West Point-Beemer this year, but the Cadets have done some nice things at times this season.

Anybody can be beat, especially this time of year, and Oakland-Craig has to be wary about that with West Point-Beemer.

The Knights can't take the Cadets lightly or for granted, that is for sure.

Oakland-Craig has to come out and run and shoot well and get very physical with West Point-Beemer.

The Knights can't afford to let the Cadets hang around if at all possible.

Oakland-Craig has to put West Point-Beemer away if given the opportunity.

The last thing the Knights want to see is the Cadets hanging around and giving them a ball game.

Oakland-Craig would just assume win this one big and have no issues with West Point-Beemer.

The game will start after the Girls game at 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.

The Oakland-Craig Girls won the East Husker Conference Tournament, defeating West Point-Beemer 42-38 in the Semifinals at Midland last Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning the championship 49-48 in overtime over North Bend Central in Saturday's Championship Game also at Midland and aired on the Bull. Oakland-Craig then won 45-34 at Fremont Bergan Tuesday night.

O-C got out to a 6-0 lead before the Cadets came back and tied the game at 9-9 to end the first quarter.

The Knights took a 21-18 lead into halftime.

West Point-Beemer outscored Oakland-Craig 15-9 in the third quarter, and the Cadets led 33-30 heading into the fourth.

The Knights turned up the defense in the fourth, only allowing five points, and also made their last six free throws in a row to hang on for the victory.

Head Coach Joe Anderson.

“That was a great West Point team we played out there tonight, and they made some big shots. The Swanson girl is an incredible player and they’re very well coached,” Anderson said. “Our girls kinda cranked up the defense there at the end and found a way to make a few extra plays. And that’s kinda what they’ve been doing the last month. We’ve had some close ones, played some really good teams. That’s one thing about this group, they never quit and they just find a way to win.”

Kennedy Benne led O-C with 17 points with Jeannina Blahak adding nine.

The Knights held a slim 11-9 advantage after the first quarter on the Tigers, and went into halftime leading 17-12.

Both teams score nine points in the third quarter, and Oakland-Craig still led 26-21.

The Knights built a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter, and looked like they were going to run away with the lead, before NBC went on a scoring run.

The Tigers went off for 21 points in the fourth, and were able to tie the game at 42-42, forcing overtime.

Oakland-Craig outscored NBC 7-6 in the extra period, claiming the Conference title, while also beating NBC for the second time this season.

Benne had 24 points to lead O-C, shooting 11-17 from the free throw line herself. Chaney Nelson added 10 points. As a team, the Knights were 18-33 at the foul line.

Oakland-Craig led Bergan 18-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. O-C won the 2nd quarter 5-4 to take a 23-12 lead into the locker room.

Bergan won the 3rd quarter 15-11 to make it a 34-27 game at the end of three.

O-C outscored Bergan 11-7 in the 4th quarter.

Oakland-Craig is having an amazing dream season, what more can you say?

The Knights (22-0) battle West Point-Beemer (19-5) on the road Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Cadets won 58-17 at Madison Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer is a very good team, and will be extremely difficult for Oakland-Craig to beat a second time.

I thought the Knights would have trouble beating North Bend Central a second time though and they pulled that one off so perhaps Oakland-Craig can win this one as well.

Of course the difference this time is the Knights are on the road.

Oakland-Craig went into Bergan and took care of business Tuesday night though so that should help them heading into Friday night's game.

It figures to be a monster clash between two very good and great teams.

The Cadets are a really good team, ranked No. 9 in the State in Class C-1.

The Knights are ranked 1st in C-2 and No. 9 in all Classes by the Omaha World-Herald so this should be a great game.

It has all the makings and billings of a great game Friday night, and should be an amazing game and a dandy.

I look for Oakland-Craig to play great basketball Friday night, and perhaps beat West Point-Beemer for a second time.

I could honestly see this game going either way though.

I think it's going to be very tight and defensive once again, and the stakes are very high in this one.

The Cadets probably need this one more than the Knights for postseason seeding purposes should West Point-Beemer make it past Sub-Districts, but you can bet Oakland-Craig wants to stay undefeated.

I fully expect the Knights to be playing on Championship Saturday on March 7th, and this game has all the makings and billings of an instant classic.

It should be a great game, and I'm really looking forward to calling it for you on the Bull.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
