North Bend Central Boys beat Wisner-Pilger twice; Girls top Gators and then Clarkson/Leigh in first round of EHC Tournament

The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team won 52-42 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night before beating the Gators again 54-41 at home in Tuesday night's Quarterfinals.

In Thursday's game, NBC led Wisner-Pilger 15-10 after one. The Gators won the 2nd quarter 9-5 to make it a 20-19 game at halftime.

The Tigers outscored Wisner-Pilger 23-11 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 43-30 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 12-9.

In the EHC Tournament game, the Tigers got up 14-9 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 10-8 to take a 24-17 lead into the locker room.

NBC won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to up their advantage to 38-30 at the end of three.

The Tigers outscored the Gators 16-11 in the 4th quarter.

Two solid wins for North Bend Central over Wisner-Pilger.

The Tigers (18-0) battle Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (18-2) in the EHC Tournament Semifinals at Midland Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Bulldogs won 67-42 at home over Twin River in Tuesday night's Quarterfinals.

The two teams met on December 27th in the North Bend Central Holiday Tournament with NBC winning 51-44.

I would anticipate the Tigers winning again on Friday as well, but you never know.

BRLD and Logan View/Scribner-Snyder are going to be two tough opponents in Saturday's Championship and 3rd place game that's for sure.

Lots of great basketball is played in this conference, and we are down to the Semifinals and Consolation Games.

North Bend Central simply has to do what they have all year plus kick things into high gear.

The Tigers have had some close calls this year, but NBC has found a way around them and has come out on top all season long.

The Tigers are just as good if not better than they were last year, in my opinion.

North Bend Central is having a great season, and I look for the Tigers to play well once again Friday night.

The Bulldogs won State in D-1 last year and very well could again so they're a tough team too.

Still though I'm willing to bet NBC has a chip on their shoulder after last year and wants to get back to Lincoln and do some more damage.

State is a little ways off yet though, and the Tigers have to focus on playing a great and solid game Friday night.

I think the game being played at Midland is an advantage for North Bend Central.

The Tigers are familiar with the venue whereas Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family may not be quite as familiar with it.

If the Semifinals were at Central Community College in Columbus I would say that favors the Bulldogs, but they aren't.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.

The North Bend Central Girls won 52-25 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night before defeating Clarkson/Leigh 56-38 at home in Monday night's East Husker Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Tigers doubled up Wisner-Pilger 10-5 in the 1st quarter, and outscored the Gators 15-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-13 lead into the locker room.

NBC blanked Wisner-Pilger 15-0 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 40-13 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 points in the 4th quarter.

The Tigers went up 17-9 after one, and doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 22-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-20 lead at halftime.

The Patriots won the 3rd quarter 10-7 to make it a 46-30 game at the end of three.

North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 10-8.

Cierra Kluthe had 17 points while Kaitlyn Emanuel and Sydney Emanuel registered 10 apiece. Megan Ortmeier recorded 8.

Two great games from the Tigers, who have been as consistent as they come all season long.

North Bend Central (18-1) plays host to Pender (15-7) in the EHC Tournament Semifinals from Midland Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Pendragons won 71-67 over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in Monday night's Quarterfinals at North Bend Central.

The two teams met on December 20th in North Bend with the Tigers winning 59-47.

Certainly North Bend Central has been consistent all year long while Pender has come on strong as of late.

I feel the Tigers will win based on their height and experience and familiarity with playing at Midland.

I also think NBC could control and dictate tempo of the game.

I think the Tigers' height will give the Pendragons fits and issues on the inside.

We'll see what happens, but North Bend Central is a very good and tough team, and has been really hard to knock off all season long.

It would be a huge deal for the Tigers to get back to the Championship Game.

Making it to the Championship on Saturday would be a huge deal and tremendous accomplishment for this team and program.

North Bend Central can't be looking ahead to that though.

It's hard not to think about it, but the Tigers have to lock in on Pender and focus on beating the Pendragons first.

Pender is red hot right now, and North Bend Central is going to have to play exceptional basketball to come away with the win.

I think the Tigers are going to need to contest shots from the perimeter and play suffocating defense on the Pendragons.

Offensively, I feel NBC has to use their size advantage and pound the rock inside to the Emanuel's and others, and get to the free throw line and convert as well as make easy layups.

Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
