Pender Boys lose to Wisner-Pilger in first round of East Husker Conference Tournament; Girls beat Winnebago and win first two EHC Tournament games

The Pender Boys Basketball Team lost 60-36 at Wisner-Pilger Saturday night in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament.

The game went better for the Pendragons than the first time around though.

Pender (4-16) takes on Clarkson/Leigh (5-11) in an EHC Tournament Consolation game at Clarkson on Friday.

The Patriots lost 51-46 to Howells-Dodge in the other first round game at Wisner-Pilger on Saturday.

The two teams met on Tuesday, January 21st in Clarkson with Clarkson/Leigh winning 60-41.

I anticipate that Friday night's game will be closer than that one.

I still feel like the Patriots may win, but the Pendragons have to come out and play a great game from start to finish.

It has been a tough year for Pender, but the Pendragons have to come out and show some fight and grit Friday night.

After this, Pender rounds out the regular season against BRLD on Friday, the 21st.

This is probably the Pendragons' last shot at a regular season win.

Pender has to come out and play great, hard, and smart from the start.

The Pendragons need to show Clarkson/Leigh what they are made of, and come out fired and jacked up.

Pender has to come out and play like no Pendragon team has ever played before.

Pender has to be intense, tough, gritty, tenacious, fiery, and pumped.

The Pendragons have to play extremely hard and with maximum effort.

Pender has to do everything in their power to win this one and come out on top.

The Pendragons have to be ready to rock and roll from the get go, and must take the fight to the Patriots for four quarters.

Pender has to dig deep for a little something extra, and find a way to overcome all their struggles this season.

The Pendragons have already played Clarkson/Leigh at their house once before so Pender should have a better idea of what to expect this time around.

Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Pender Girls knocked off Winnebago 61-50 on the road Thursday night before winning 64-50 over Wisner-Pilger at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Friday night. The Pendragons then won 71-67 over the Bulldogs at North Bend Central in Monday night's Quarterfinals aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Pendragons led the Indians 13-10 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 16-12 to take a 29-22 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 14-12 to make it a 41-36 game at the end of three.

Pender outscored the Indians 20-14 in the 4th quarter.

The Pendragons led the Gators 14-8 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 16-14 to take a 30-22 lead into the locker room.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 22-18 to go up 52-40 at the end of three.

The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 12-10.

Pender led the Bulldogs 19-18 at the end of one, and outscored H/LHF 19-13 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-31 lead into the locker room.

The Bulldogs won the 3rd quarter 18-14 to make it a 52-49 game at the end of three.

The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 19-18.

Ashley Ostrand had 19 points while Faith Morris totaled 14. Claire Felber added 12 while Zoey Lehmkuhl pitched in 8.

Amazing stretch of games for Pender, who has won 9 in a row.

The Pendragons (15-7) take on North Bend Central (18-1) in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals from Midland Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers won 56-38 at home over Clarkson/Leigh in Monday night's Quarterfinals also aired on the Bull.

The two teams met in North Bend on December 20th with North Bend Central winning 59-47.

I feel like Pender has gotten a lot better since that time and the Tigers have pretty much stayed the same and been consistent all season long.

I think NBC's size and height could give the Pendragons fits inside.

Pender is quick and athletic while the Tigers are tall and athletic.

I feel the Pendragons could have the advantage at the guard position, but North Bend Central definitely has the size advantage.

I think Pender is going to have to knock down some outside shots and keep the Tigers off the boards to have a chance in this one.

The Pendragons have to look to drive and kick to their guards on the outside.

I think it's also important for Pender to create turnovers and get their transition game going.

The Pendragons have to look to get out and run and push tempo.

A slow down, halfcourt game to a crawl favors North Bend Central I feel.

But an up and down fast paced style game favors Pender, in my opinion.

So whichever team can dictate tempo and keep one another off the boards will have the advantage, in my opinion.

Something tells me that could be the Tigers, but we will see.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.

It will be interesting to see how the Pendragons adjust and adapt to playing at Midland.

I'm sure NBC is used to or at least comfortable with it.
