Howells-Dodge Boys lose to North Bend Central, beat Wakefield; Girls fall to Tigers, beat LHNE in Sub-Districts

The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team lost 81-69 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 66-62 at Wakefield Friday night.

The Tigers led 12-11 after one before outscoring the Jaguars 31-16 in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-27 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge won the 3rd quarter 25-24 to make it a 67-52 game at the end of three.

The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 17-14.

Luke Rocheford had 22 points. RJ Bayer scored 20 and Blake Sindelar added 10.

Howells-Dodge got out to a 15-8 lead on the Trojans at the end of one. Wakefield won the 2nd quarter 24-19 to make it a 34-32 game at halftime.

The Trojans won the 3rd quarter 20-19 to cut the deficit to 1 at 53-52 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored Wakefield 13-10 in the 4th quarter.

Good win for Howells-Dodge Friday night.

The Jaguars (12-10) battle Lutheran High Northeast (13-8) on the road in Friday night's regular season finale.

The Eagles lost 65-61 at home to Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday.

This game is important for Sub-District momentum for both teams.

Howells-Dodge is matching up with Elkhorn Valley in the D1-3 Sub-District Semifinals at Norfolk Catholic on Tuesday.

I think a win would help the Jaguars with momentum heading into the postseason.

Howells-Dodge probably has to win out in Sub-Districts to make Sub-State, but a win over LHNE would help make that possibility a reality.

The Jaguars will likely have to go through Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family if they are to make Sub-State though.

That would be a very difficult task, but upsets happen all the time.

That's why it's super important for Howells-Dodge to play well Friday night.

I thought the Jaguars played well last week.

Now Howells-Dodge just has to carry that play over into this week.

The Jaguars are peaking at the right time and coming on strong at the right moment.

I feel like Howells-Dodge is going to be a tough out in the postseason.

I think the Jaguars' tough schedule makes them a difficult team to beat.

Of course the Bulldogs are battle tested too and beat Howells-Dodge earlier this year so if those two matchup again the Jaguars would certainly have their work cut out for them.

I think it's important for Howells-Dodge to play good and strong defense Friday night, and be clicking on all cylinders offensively as well.

I think a loss would be a disappointing way for the Jaguars to end the regular season, and would set them back some.

So I would say a win is pretty important and imperative Friday night.

The Howells-Dodge Girls lost 56-29 at home to North Bend Central in Thursday night's regular season finale before winning 60-50 over Lutheran High Northeast in the C2-5 Sub-District Semifinals from Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night.

The Tigers got out to a 22-8 lead after one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 34-19 lead into the locker room.

NBC outscored the Jaguars 12-2 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 46-21 at the end of three.

The Tigers won the 4th quarter 10-8.

The Eagles led 11-7 at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored LHNE 27-18 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-29 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to increase their lead to 49-41 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 11-9.

Solid win for the Jaguars Tuesday night.

Howells-Dodge (9-13) battles Clarkson/Leigh (18-5) in Thursday night's Sub-District Final.

The Patriots dispatched of Stanton 34-10 in Tuesday night's other Semifinal.

These two teams met on December 21st at Howells-Dodge with Clarkson/Leigh winning 53-36.

I would argue that the Patriots aren't quite as strong as they were then and the Jaguars are a better team now than they were then.

These two teams are rivals too, and I think Howells-Dodge has a chance in this one.

The Jaguars have to use their size to score points down low and control things on the boards.

Howells-Dodge also has to knock down some outside jumpers and get to the free throw line and convert lay ups.

I think the guards getting to the basket and scoring will be very important for the Jaguars.

The Patriots do such a good job of dribble penetrating, and Howells-Dodge has to as well.

The Jaguars have to handle pressure and take care of the ball and limit turnovers.

Howells-Dodge also has to force turnovers and try and take Clarkson/Leigh out of their game.

It should be an interesting game that's for sure.

I feel things have a chance to go down to the wire.

I definitely feel like Thursday night's game will be much closer than the regular season meeting was.

The Patriots might win by 5 or something like that, but it should be a close and hotly contested ball game.

The Jaguars have played good ball the second half of the season, and will be difficult to beat.

Howells-Dodge is going to be a tough out on Thursday, and won't go down quietly and without a fight I am sure.

This is do or die for the Jaguars.

Win and the season continues, lose and the season is over.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
