Stanton Boys lose to Clarkson/Leigh; Girls go 1-3 in last four games

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 53-42 at Clarkson/Leigh last Thursday night.

The Patriots doubled up the Mustangs 16-8 in the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 11-10 to take a 27-18 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 15-10 to close the gap to 37-33 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Mustangs 16-9 in the 4th quarter.

TJ Larson had 16 points and 9 rebounds while Parker Krusemark totaled 14 points.

Tough loss for Stanton.

The Mustangs (4-17) host Emerson-Hubbard (4-15) Friday night.

The Pirates lost 75-47 at Omaha Nation Friday night.

You can bet Emerson-Hubbard will come out and play well and tough and put forth a great effort, especially with it being their final days as the Emerson-Hubbard Pirates.

This is a chance for Stanton to pick up another win before the season comes to a close.

This game is important in terms of building momentum for Sub-Districts and building for the future.

I think it's safe to say that neither team has had the kind of year they were hoping for, but whoever gets a win will have something positive to build off of.

Whoever loses this game will be at a loss you could say.

It won't be good for whoever drops and loses this contest.

A loss would hurt Stanton or Emerson-Hubbard going into Sub-Districts for sure.

The Mustangs have to come out and play with some fire and intensity.

This is the last ever home game for the seniors, and Stanton has to make it count.

The Mustangs' season may very well end next week, but the least Stanton can do is go down fighting and swinging.

This game has to matter to the Mustangs.

Stanton has to come out and fight and battle hard and play with Mustang pride.

These kids have to play their hearts out and go out battling Friday night.

This is a game Stanton can win too so the Mustangs have to take advantage of things from that standpoint.

A loss to the Pirates would be a tough pill to swallow for Stanton without a doubt.

That's why the Mustangs have to come out and do everything in their power to pick up a victory.

Stanton has to find a way to win, plain and simple.

The Mustangs are at home against a team two classes below them with nearly an identical record.

That in itself should be enough for Stanton to think that they are going to win.

The Stanton Girls fell 48-20 at Clarkson/Leigh last Thursday night before losing 56-34 at Norfolk Catholic Friday night. The Mustangs then won 52-30 over Madison in the C2-5 Sub-District Play-In Game from Norfolk Catholic Monday night before falling 34-10 to the Patriots in the Semifinals on Tuesday.

In the first meeting, the Patriots got out to a 16-3 lead on the Mustangs at the end of one. Clarkson/Leigh outscored Stanton 12-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-8 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots outscored the Mustangs 10-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 38-12 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 10-8.

The Knights led 21-11 after one. Norfolk Catholic outscored Stanton 23-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 44-18 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 11-10 to make it a 54-29 game at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 5-2.

Marissa Remm had 7 points while Kinley Pohlman notched 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs doubled up the Dragons 10-5 in the 1st quarter, and outscored them 22-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-9 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 14-11 to increase their advantage to 46-20 at the end of three.

Madison won the 4th quarter 10-6.

Sylvia Cunningham poured in 20 points while Remm added 8. Emma Hansen added 7 points and 7 rebounds.

In the 2nd meeting, the Patriots tripled up Stanton 6-2 in the 1st quarter. Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Mustangs 10-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 16-5 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots quadrupled up Stanton 8-2 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 24-7 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored the Mustangs 10-3 in the 4th quarter.

Pohlman pulled down 9 rebounds while Cunningham registered 7.

Tough way to go out and end the season if you are Stanton.

The Mustangs conclude the campaign with a 6-18 record.

It was definitely a rebuilding year for Stanton to say the least.

There were some bright spots for the Mustangs this year, but also a lot of games that didn't go their way.

Stanton was young this year, and struggles are to be expected with a new and young team.

The Mustangs say goodbye to Hansen, Jasmine Kment, Morgan Remm, and Marissa Remm.

These four seniors meant a lot to Stanton basketball and will be missed without a doubt.

The Mustangs bring back Cunningham, Olivia Cunningham, Savannah Siebrandt, Pohlman, and Ellie Locke, among others.

So there is a lot of talent coming back for Stanton next year.

I feel the Mustangs can be a force to be reckoned with next year, but we will see what happens for sure.

Stanton had a tough year, but there's no doubt this year's struggles will only make the Mustangs better and stronger in the future.

Stanton has to really get after things this offseason and make a big commitment to the gym and weightroom.

The girls have to make a commitment to getting faster and stronger.

The Mustangs have to be gym rats and shoot a lot over the summer as well.

Champions are made and born in the summer, not during the season.

Stanton has to develop and mold themselves into great players over the summer.

The Mustangs have to attend as many summer camps and leagues as possible and take part in as many open gyms and team functions as possible.

Stanton's players have to be involved with what's going on with the team as well as what's going on outside of school in the community and at the school itself.

The Mustangs have to work on self growth and self development as people as well.
