Wisner-Pilger Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 0-2
The Wisner-Pilger Boys Basketball Team lost 52-42 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night before winning 60-36 over Pender at home in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday, and then falling 54-41 to the Tigers in Tuesday night's Quarterfinals.
In Thursday's game, NBC led Wisner-Pilger 15-10 after one. The Gators won the 2nd quarter 9-5 to make it a 20-19 game at halftime.
The Tigers outscored Wisner-Pilger 23-11 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 43-30 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 12-9.
In the EHC Tournament game, the Tigers got up 14-9 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 10-8 to take a 24-17 lead into the locker room.
NBC won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to up their advantage to 38-30 at the end of three.
The Tigers outscored the Gators 16-11 in the 4th quarter.
Good win over the Pendragons.
Wisner-Pilger (11-7) takes on Howells-Dodge (11-7) in an EHC Tournament Consolation Game at Oakland-Craig Friday night.
The Jaguars lost 72-44 at BRLD in Tuesday night's Quarterfinals.
These two teams will meet again on Monday so it is the first of what should be two really good matchups.
I look for both contests to be very close too.
It wouldn't surprise me if both games were decided by 5 points or less.
The Gators have a tendency to dominate teams with worse records than them and struggle against teams with better records than them.
I look for it to be a case of in between against Howells-Dodge with both of these teams having identical records.
I feel one or both of these teams have a chance to go on a run before the season ends.
Even if Wisner-Pilger doesn't make a run in their remaining regular season games, I feel the Gators could do something in the postseason.
I still think it's very important for Wisner-Pilger to win at least one of these games against Howells-Dodge though.
The Gators can ill afford to go 0-2 against the Jaguars on Friday and Monday.
Wisner-Pilger needs at least a split against Howells-Dodge, and I feel they will get that at the very least.
A sweep would be nice so we'll see if that's in the cards for the Gators.
Wisner-Pilger has to come out and play hard, smart, and aggressive Friday night.
The Gators have to set the tone early and get off to a strong start.
It should be a heck of a battle between these two teams, and we will see who wins Friday night.
I could see Wisner-Pilger winning both games, but the Gators should worry about Friday first.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Oakland.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls lost 52-25 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night before falling 64-50 to Pender in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night.
The Tigers doubled up Wisner-Pilger 10-5 in the 1st quarter, and outscored the Gators 15-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-13 lead into the locker room.
NBC blanked Wisner-Pilger 15-0 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 40-13 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 12 points in the 4th quarter.
Lindsey Kneifl paced the Gators with 8 points.
The Pendragons led the Gators 14-8 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 16-14 to take a 30-22 lead into the locker room.
Pender won the 3rd quarter 22-18 to go up 52-40 at the end of three.
The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 12-10.
Emma Heller led the team with 13 points while Aspin Waterman totaled 11 points and 7 rebounds. Kneifl and Macy Stuhr added 7 points apiece.
Wisner-Pilger (3-15) battles Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (4-14) in an EHC Consolation game at Howells-Dodge Thursday night.
The Raiders lost 49-33 to West Point-Beemer in Friday night's first round at BRLD.
These two teams met on January 18th in Hooper with the Gators winning 61-48.
Wisner-Pilger was playing at their peak at the time though so I anticipate the rematch to be even closer.
Both teams have really been struggling lately and could use a win.
The Gators have lost five in a row and could really use a W over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
The Raiders really need it too though as I mentioned so it's a matter of who wants it more probably getting the win.
Which team can dig deeper and find the will from within to win?
The team that does that will most likely win, in my opinion.
It's tough....you lose a lot of games in a row and get beat by a lot of teams.
Somehow though Wisner-Pilger has to rise above all that and play well.
The Gators have to persevere from the tough times and go out there and play a strong, sound game Thursday night.
Wisner-Pilger has to go out there and try and beat a team that they know they can beat for a second time.
The Gators have to be ready to take Logan View/Scribner-Snyder's best shot though.
The Raiders will come out with tons of energy and pride I am sure.
Wisner-Pilger has to leave things all out on the floor and must go out there and get the job done.
The Gators have to find that will, drive, and determination to win, and play an overall great game from start to finish.
The game is the 2nd one of the night at Howells-Dodge so things should get started at around 6:00 p.m. or so.
