Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose to Howells-Dodge in EHC Tournament; Girls beat Stanton, lose to North Bend Central in Quarterfinals
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team fell 51-46 to Howells-Dodge in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Wisner-Pilger on Saturday.
The Jaguars led 16-7 at the end of one before the Patriots outscored them 15-10 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 26-22 game at halftime.
Howells-Dodge won the 3rd quarter 13-11 to go up 39-33 at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 13-12.
Kyle Kasik had 10 points and 7 rebounds while Carter Hanel totaled 9 points and 10 rebounds. Jarred Novotny and Lance Paprocki notched 9 apiece.
Great effort and game from the Patriots.
Clarkson/Leigh (5-11) battles Pender (4-16) in an EHC Tournament Consolation Game at Clarkson on Friday.
The Pendragons fell 60-36 to Wisner-Pilger in the other first round game in Wisner on Saturday.
These two teams met in Clarkson last month with the Patriots winning 60-41.
I look for Pender to make things closer this time, but still feel Clarkson/Leigh will win.
The Patriots did a really nice job against the Jaguars on Saturday I thought.
I look for Clarkson/Leigh's offense to be effective and efficient on Friday.
I also look for the Patriots to play a good and strong game defensively against the Pendragons as well.
It should be a great and entertaining and compelling game between the two squads.
I look for Clarkson/Leigh to really get after it, and make themselves difficult to beat.
The Patriots have to start the game out stronger than they did against Howells-Dodge though.
Clarkson/Leigh played well in the final three quarters, but the first quarter was the difference in the game.
The Patriots must play a complete four quarter game, and take the fight to the Pendragons for four quarters.
Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and smack Pender in the mouth.
The Patriots need balanced scoring much like they got against the Jaguars.
Clarkson/Leigh nearly had 4 players in double figures, and if the Patriots can get that many if not more in double figures against the Pendragons then they should be in business.
Clarkson/Leigh is on a four-game losing streak, and has to look to break it against Pender.
The Pendragons have lost all but one game in the 2020 calendar year so something has to give in this one.
Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. at Clarkson.
The Clarkson/Leigh Girls beat Stanton 28-16 at home in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Friday night before losing 56-38 at North Bend Central in Monday night's Quarterfinals aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Stanton game was tied at 3 at the end of one. The Patriots won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to go up 14-12 at halftime.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 4-3 to extend their lead to 18-15 at the end of three.
The Patriots outscored the Mustangs 10-1 in the 4th quarter.
Alissa Kasik had 10 points while Cassidy Hoffman totaled 7.
The Tigers went up 17-9 after one, and doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 22-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-20 lead at halftime.
The Patriots won the 3rd quarter 10-7 to make it a 46-30 game at the end of three.
North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 10-8.
Ashlynn Novotny had 12 points while Kennedy Settje notched 9. Faith Indra added 8 while Hoffman posted 7.
A slow start hurt Clarkson/Leigh against the Tigers.
The Patriots (14-5) take on Tekamah-Herman (10-10) in an EHC Tournament Consolation Game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Thursday night.
The Tigers lost 72-36 to Oakland-Craig at Oakland-Craig in Monday night's Quarterfinals.
These two teams met on January 11th in Clarkson with the Patriots winning 57-30.
This game figures to be closer this time around though.
I base that on how Clarkson/Leigh played against Stanton and how Tekamah-Herman played against Howells-Dodge.
I thought the first meeting would be a lot closer than it was though so it could definitely be another blowout between the two teams.
I think the Patriots will have an easier time bouncing back from their loss on Monday than the Tigers will.
Clarkson/Leigh is also more familiar with the gym at Humphrey than Tekamah-Herman is I'm thinking so that should make a huge difference as well.
I look for the Patriots to find a way to win on Thursday.
Clarkson/Leigh is in a good position to finish the regular season 17-5, which is nearly what the Patriots did last year.
These last three regular season games are must wins for Clarkson/Leigh.
The win over Stanton was ugly, but it was a win.
The Patriots have to find a way not only to win these next three games, but win them in impressive fashion.
Clarkson/Leigh has to be as sharp as possible heading into the postseason, which is right around the corner.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Humphrey.
The other game is BRLD against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family so a lot of good teams and basketball being played in this set of consolation games on Thursday.
