GACC Boys 0-2 in last two games; Girls 2-0
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 58-52 at Mead Thursday night before falling 61-35 to Pierce at Battle Creek Tuesday night in the first round of the Mid-State Conference Tournament.
The Raiders led 9-7 at the end of one. GACC won the 2nd quarter 16-15 to make it a 24-23 game at halftime.
The Bluejays won the 3rd quarter 13-12 to tie the game at 36 at the end of three.

Nate Niewohner and Casey Doernemann each had 11 points while Ben Ulrich totaled 10. Adam Reeson added 7 points and 9 rebounds while Cody Steffen had 9 rebounds.
GACC got out to a 13-6 lead on Pierce at the end of one. Pierce outscored GACC 16-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-16 lead into the locker room.
Pierce won the 3rd quarter 21-13 to increase their lead to 43-29 at the end of three.
Pierce tripled up GACC 18-6 in the 4th quarter.
Reeson totaled 9 points while Brendan Rief had 8.
A couple of really tough defeats for GACC.
The Bluejays (8-9) take on Boone Central/Newman Grove (4-14) in a Mid-State Consolation Game at Norfolk Catholic Friday night.
The Cardinals fell 65-38 to Battle Creek at Battle Creek in the first round of the tournament Tuesday night.
GACC beat BC/NG 64-52 at home on Saturday, January 18th.
The Bluejays haven't been the same since their win over O'Neill last Friday though so GACC has to kick things into high gear for this one.
The Bluejays have to find a way to pick up a win and snap their three-game losing streak.
I feel a victory would allow GACC to get back on track.
The Bluejays have a lot of basketball left and a lot of opportunity, and really need to keep getting after things.
I think GACC will find a way to play well on Friday.
It figures to be a non pressure environment with not a lot at stake.
That to me is an opportunity for the team to get back on track and headed back in the right direction.
If the Bluejays win this one they get another game on Saturday at Wayne State at 12:45 so it would be a big deal for GACC to get another game for sure.
The Bluejays have to be tough, and must find a way to right the ship Friday night.
GACC has to solve their woes and come out and play well against the Cardinals.
There's no reason why the Bluejays can't and shouldn't win Friday night.
GACC is facing a team they beat once before, and has to go out there and make it happen again on Friday.
The Bluejays have to be angry and upset with how the last three games have gone, and have to want to do something about their struggles.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team routed Mead 59-29 on the road Thursday night before winning 59-26 at home over Boone Central/Newman Grove in the first round of the Mid-State Conference Tournament Monday night.
The Bluejays led the Raiders 28-13 after one, and outscored Mead 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 46-20 halftime lead.
GACC outscored the Raiders 13-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 59-25 at the end of three.
Mead blanked the Bluejays 4-0 in the 4th quarter.
Brenna Rief had 17 points while Kassidy Kaup totaled 10. Kate Gnad added 9 while Brandi Doernemann notched 7 points and 8 rebounds. Sophia Hass added 10 rebounds while Leah Jansen registered 7.
GACC blanked the Cardinals 11-0 in the 1st quarter. The Bluejays also won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 26-11 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored Boone Central/Newman Grove 19-9 in the 3rd quarter to increase their advantage to 45-20 at the end of three.
The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 14-6.
Rief had 12 points while Gnad and Marissa Hunke recorded 8 apiece. Hass notched 7 points while Kaup posted 7 rebounds.
GACC (17-2) battles Norfolk Catholic (13-5) in the Mid-State Conference Tournament Semifinals at Northeast Community College in Norfolk Thursday night.
The Knights beat O'Neill 57-45 in the other game at GACC Monday night.
The Bluejays beat Norfolk Catholic 50-44 at home on December 21st.
I feel GACC is a better team now than they were then, and look for the Bluejays to come out and play exceptional basketball Thursday night.
GACC hasn't lost a game in 2020 yet and I'm sure they would like to keep it that way.
You would think we're headed for a Crofton/GACC Final on Saturday, and if that's the case that will be a great and heck of a game.
The Bluejays got the Warriors the first time around, but Crofton was without a couple players from what I understand.
Still though it would be a great final and game that could truly go either way.
I think moving Saturday's games to Wayne State is a great idea.
A bigger gym and maybe a more Central location for some of the teams.
It figures to be an exciting day of basketball at Wayne State on Saturday and hopefully the GACC girls are in the championship.
Hopefully the boys get to play a game for 5th place as well.
The Bluejays have won 10 in a row and look to make it 11 in a row Thursday night.
I look for GACC to do just that and win.
I feel like we haven't given as much attention or credit to the Bluejays this year as a lot of the focus has been on our East Husker teams, but GACC is having a very fine season in Girls Basketball, just like they always do.
It would be a huge deal if both West Point teams made it to Lincoln. That would truly be awesome.
Thursday night's game will tip-off at 6:15 p.m.
