Stanton Boys and Girls lose first round East Husker Conference Tournament Games
The Stanton Boys Basketball Team fell 48-26 to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Oakland-Craig Saturday night.
The Raiders got out to a 13-5 lead at the end of one before outscoring the Mustangs 14-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-10 lead into the locker room.
LVSS won the 3rd quarter 14-10 to extend their lead to 41-20 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 7-6.
TJ Larson had 9 points while Parker Krusemark totaled 7.
Good effort from Stanton, but the Mustangs came up a little short.
Stanton (3-15) takes on West Point-Beemer (3-16) in an EHC Consolation Game at Clarkson/Leigh on Friday.
The Cadets fell 64-41 to Twin River in the first round of the EHC Tournament at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday.
These two teams met back on December 10th in West Point with the Cadets rallying in the 4th quarter for a one-point 44-43 win.
I think the Mustangs could very well win this time around.
Reason being Stanton is more used to the gym and school in Clarkson and it's more of their territory so to speak.
It will be interesting to see what happens Friday night.
Both teams could really use a win in this one.
I'm sure both teams are disappointed they lost on Saturday, but the Mustangs have to use the contest as a way and opportunity to get better and create a spark.
I think Stanton can definitely do that with a win on Friday.
The Mustangs have all week to prepare and get ready for West Point-Beemer as do the Cadets for Stanton.
It will be interesting to see which team is more motivated and wants it more.
I could definitely see that being the Mustangs, but I'm sure West Point-Beemer will want to be there as well.
It should be a heck of a game and contest if the first meeting was any sign and indication of how things are going to go.
I really think Stanton has the edge and advantage this time around, but we will see.
It should be a heck of a game that comes down to the wire.
The Cadets played the Raiders a little bit closer than the Mustangs did so it will be interesting to see if that has any factor on the game if anything.
The first game of the day starts at 4:30 p.m., and this one will be the third and final game of the night.
The Stanton Girls lost 28-16 to Clarkson/Leigh in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Clarkson Friday night.
The game was tied at 3 at the end of one. The Patriots won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to go up 14-12 at halftime.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 4-3 to extend their lead to 18-15 at the end of three.
The Patriots outscored the Mustangs 10-1 in the 4th quarter.
Sylvia Cunningham had 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Great defense by Stanton, the Mustangs just couldn't get the offense going.
Stanton (5-13) battles Howells-Dodge (6-12) at Howells-Dodge in an EHC Consolation game on Thursday.
The Jaguars lost 45-37 to Tekamah-Herman in the other game at Clarkson Friday night.
These two teams met in the second game of the season in Stanton with Howells-Dodge winning 39-26.
I fully expect this game to be close, entertaining, and compelling.
I was surprised that the Jaguars lost to the Tigers and wasn't necessarily expecting the Mustangs to keep things as close as they did with the Patriots.
So what I'm saying is I think this game could be closer than the first meeting was between these two teams.
I look for Stanton to come out and play well and inspired and potentially win it.
The game being at Howells-Dodge is an advantage for the Jaguars though.
Still though based on the two teams' most recent games you would have to think the Mustangs have a fairly good shot at winning.
I think offense is the key in this one for Stanton.
We know the Mustangs can defend, but I think scoring and making baskets is going to be the key to a Mustang win on Thursday.
Stanton has to be confident when they shoot and has to watch the ball go in the basket.
The Mustangs have to follow their shot as well as knock down open jumpers and get to the free throw line and convert and also make layups.
Stanton has to do the little things well to do well and be successful.
The Mustangs need to have good practices leading up to the day of the game.
Stanton has to work on themselves and have a good game plan coming into this one.
The Mustangs have to be ready to battle hard for 32 minutes, and must be ready to play a complete, four quarter game.
The game will be the last of the day at Howells-Dodge, starting at around 7:45 p.m. or so.
