Bancroft-Rosalie Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls take 3rd at Homer Holiday Tournament
The Bancroft-Rosalie Boys Basketball team lost 60-45 at home to Cedar Bluffs Tuesday night after going 1-1 at the Homer Holiday Tournament last week.
The Panthers topped the host Knights 67-42 last Tuesday before losing to Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the championship game last Wednesday, 77-46.
Bancroft-Rosalie led Homer 20-12 at the end of one. The Panthers won the second quarter 11-10 to take a 31-22 lead into the locker room.
Bancroft-Rosalie outscored the Knights 14-6 in the third quarter to make it a 45-28 game at the end of three.
The Panthers notched 22 fourth quarter points compared to 14 for Homer.
Head Coach Cory Meyer. "I thought Kenyan Lovejoy stepped up very well off the bench having a season high of 21 points and 14 rebounds. I was also pleased with the way Mario Aldrich (8 rebounds) and Aaron Ras (12 rebounds) rebounded as well. "
Trent Gatewood notched 12 points while Ras and Aldrich had 10 apiece.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 22-6 lead at the end of one. GACC outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 29-14 in the second quarter to take a 51-20 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays doubled up the Panthers 14-7 in the third quarter to lead 65-27 at the end of three.
Bancroft-Rosalie won the fourth quarter 19-12.
Ras, Aldrich, and Jacob Zuhlke each had 10 points to pace the Panthers. Lovejoy totaled 8.
The Wildcats held a 15-14 advantage at the end of one. Cedar Bluffs won the second quarter 12-8 to go up 27-22 at halftime.
The Wildcats outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 17-7 in the third quarter to lead 44-29 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 16 fourth quarter points.
Ras finished with a team-high 13 points while Aldrich and Lovejoy notched 10 and 7, respectively.
I'm surprised the Panthers have struggled over the last couple of games as much as they have. I think it's a case of GACC hit them in the mouths last week, and they haven't recovered yet.
Bancroft-Rosalie (7-2) travels to Wisner to battle Wisner-Pilger (4-5) Thursday night.
The Panthers beat Wakefield 81-41 on Thursday in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Tournament after dropping games to Battle Creek and Neligh-Oakdale.
The Gators weren't particularly impressive in their Holiday Tournament, and Bancroft-Rosalie certainly could have played much better against the Bluejays.
This is clearly a matchup between two teams who really need a win. Both teams need to win to stop the bleeding and gain momentum for the rest of the season.
The Panthers have to forget about what has transpired recently, and find a way to play better.
Bancroft-Rosalie doesn't want their struggles lingering into next week. The Panthers' recent struggles is something Bancroft-Rosalie wants to fix right away.
There's certainly plenty of room for growth and improvement with this team, and a win over Wisner-Pilger would be big for this team, and would get them headed back in the right direction.
Bancroft-Rosalie is a good team, they just need to find a way to put their recent struggles behind them, and play at a high level again.
The Panthers have to get back to doing the things that made them successful in the early season.
Bancroft-Rosalie simply has to get back to form and snap out of this mini funk they are in.
It should be a good game regardless of who wins and loses.
Catch the action on 107.9 the Bull. The game is set to tip-off after the girls game, which is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
The Bancroft-Rosalie Girls went 1-1 at the Homer Holiday Tournament last week, losing 64-17 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic last Tuesday before downing the host Knights 57-30 in the consolation game last Wednesday.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 26-2 lead after one and outscored the Panthers 16-7 in the second quarter to take a 42-9 lead into the locker room.
GACC won the third quarter to make it a 53-13 game at the end of three. The Bluejays also won the fourth quarter 11-4.
The Panthers went up 14-5 on the Knights after one. Bancroft-Rosalie won the second quarter 12-7 to take a 26-12 lead into the locker room.
The Panthers outscored Homer 19-10 in the third quarter to lead 45-22 at the end of three.
Bancroft-Rosalie notched 12 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for the Knights.
Vicki Gatzmeyer led the way with 19 points. Kassidi Browning added 9 while Hannah Flock and Paige Peters totaled 7 apiece. Justice Johnson had 8 rebounds while Tess Nottleman recorded 7.
The Panthers had a tough go of things against GACC. Bancroft-Rosalie bounced back nicely against Homer, however.
The Panthers (3-6) take on Wisner-Pilger (6-4) in Wisner Thursday evening.
The Gators went 2-1 in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Tournament, defeating Neligh-Oakdale and Battle Creek before losing the championship game to Pierce.
Wisner-Pilger has certainly taken some teams by surprise this season, and Bancroft-Rosalie is going to have to play really well to hang with and beat the Gators.
The Panthers must get a similar effort to what they got against Homer.
Gatzmeyer, Browning, Flock, Peters, Nottleman, and Johnson all have to be big offensively scoring and rebounding for Bancroft-Rosalie.
The Panthers also have to get after things on the defensive end of the floor, contesting shots and rebounding well.
The biggest things for Bancroft-Rosalie are to be competitive and have fun.
The Panthers need to play a good game to be successful, and the looser Bancroft-Rosalie plays and the more fun they have, the more successful they will be, in my opinion.
The Panthers still have to play with physical and mental toughness, grit, tenacity, fire, and determination, but it all has to be in a good fun like spirit.
I look for Bancroft-Rosalie to come out and compete, and make things respectable.
