Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys beat David City Aquinas; Girls 3-0 in last three games
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys got back on track Saturday with a 53-51 home overtime win over David City Aquinas.
The Monarchs led 13-12 after one. The Bluejays won the second quarter 13-11 to go up 25-24 at halftime.
David City Aquinas outscored GACC 21-19 in the third quarter to lead 45-44 at the end of three.
The Bluejays scored 5 fourth quarter points and held the Monarchs to 4 to tie the game at 49 and send it into overtime.
GACC doubled up David City Aquinas 4-2 in the extra session.
The Bluejays played a real good game on Saturday. Hopefully the win gets things headed back in the right direction for GACC.
The Bluejays (9-3) host Boone Central/Newman Grove (7-3) Saturday night.
The Cardinals won 60-55 at O'Neill Monday night.
That was certainly a huge win for Boone Central/Newman Grove, and the Cardinals figure to have some momentum heading into this game.
It should be a good battle between two teams who are very capable of playing well on any given night.
It's a tough game to call in terms of trying to predict who is going to win. I would say there's a slight advantage for GACC playing at home, but given what Boone Central/Newman Grove did Monday night, I'm not so sure.
The Bluejays have played well in their last few home games even though they lost to Norfolk Catholic in one of those games.
I think GACC will play well again Saturday night, I'm just not sure if their efforts will yield them a win.
The Bluejays are certainly capable of winning, but this Cardinals' team appears to be legit and the real deal.
It's going to come down to who executes best and who wants it more. A mistake here or there could be the difference in the game.
Catch Saturday night's game on 107.9 the Bull. It's set to start after the girls game, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
It should be a good game.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls continue to amaze, defeating David City Aquinas 60-29 at home on Saturday, Bishop Neumann 63-22 on the road Tuesday night, and Winnebago 87-42 at home Thursday night.
The Bluejays led the Monarchs 19-4 after one. GACC tripled up David City Aquinas 21-7 in the third quarter to lead 40-11 at halftime.
The Bluejays won the third quarter 16-13 to go up 56-24 at the end of three.
The Monarchs notched 5 fourth quarter points to GACC's 4.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 20-2 lead on the Cavaliers at the end of one. GACC won the second quarter 14-9 to take a 34-11 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays outscored Bishop Neumann 18-7 in the third quarter to go up 52-18 after three.
GACC notched 11 fourth quarter points while the Cavaliers scored 4.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 28-9 lead on the Indians at the end of one. GACC won the second quarter 28-15 to take a 56-24 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays outscored Winnebago 19-5 in the third quarter to go up 75-29 after three.
The Indians put up 13 fourth quarter points to GACC's 12.
Katey Brown led the way with 19 points. Emily Reeson added 16 while Katie Steuter and Lauren Wobkin notched 12 apiece. Kate Knobbe registered 11 while Lexis Haase had 7.
The Bluejays have continued to play amazing basketball. I must say I'm surprised at how bad GACC beat Neumann. I thought that game would be a lot closer than it was.
The Bluejays (12-0) host Boone Central/Newman Grove (1-9) Saturday evening.
The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season Monday night, winning 51-48 at O'Neill.
Boone Central/Newman Grove will no doubt be playing with a little more confidence than they were prior to the win over the Eagles.
And the game might be a little bit closer than it would have been had the two teams played say last week, but I don't think it's going to matter much.
GACC is a well oiled machine, and nobody has been able to top them this season.
The Bluejays have had an absolutely incredible season, and it will be interesting to see if GACC can keep the magic going.
I don't see why they can't. I fully expect the Bluejays to roll to a big win on Saturday and improve to 13-0 on the year.
GACC has so many different girls that can hurt you offensively and defensively, and the Bluejays just keep coming at you.
This team is going to be very tough for anyone to beat. Kearney Catholic comes to town in a couple of weeks, and even though GACC has a couple of difficult games before they play the Stars, the Bluejays should be undefeated when Kearney Catholic comes to town.
GACC should be proud of the way they've dominated this season, but needs to keep the foot on the accelerator as the job is not done yet.
