Dylan Roth paced the Pendragons with 9 points.

Pender lost their other two games in the tournament to Wayne and O'Neill St. Mary's last Wednesday and Thursday before falling 74-42 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.

The Pendragons lost to the Blue Devils 71-43 last Wednesday before falling 55-42 to the Cardinals on Thursday.

The Pendragons put up 19 fourth quarter points compared to 18 for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

Pender has just been unable to get things going this season for whatever reason. I thought the Pendragons would be better than they are given the success these athletes had in football and baseball.

Pender (1-9) takes on Wakefield (3-8) on Friday in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament.

The two teams met in the season opener with the Trojans winning 55-41.

Wakefield lost 61-53 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast Tuesday night.

The Trojans won their first three games of the season, but have now lost eight in a row.

Wakefield will no doubt be hungry for a win, but so will the Pendragons.

It's never easy to beat a team more than once in a season, and Pender must use that to their advantage Friday evening.

The Pendragons have to turn out a complete team effort if they want to win on Friday. Pender has to play at a high level on both ends of the floor, and execute in the half court offense, as well as the fast break game.

The Pendragons have to play tight defense, contest all shots, and box out. Pender has to do the fundamental things well to knock off Wakefield.

No game is easy for the Pendragons, which means Pender has to work their tails off if they want to come out on top.

This isn't the strongest tournament in terms of teams in it, and in my opinion, any of the four teams can win it.

A tournament win would perhaps get the Pendragons' season heading in the right direction.

A loss on Friday would still give Pender a chance at a win on Saturday so we'll see how the Pendragons fare.

Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. on Friday at Emerson-Hubbard.

The Pender Girls basketball team advanced to a winner's bracket game by defeating Hartington Cedar Catholic 38-32 last Tuesday in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State.

The Trojans led 11-9 at the end of one, but Pender won the second quarter 11-7 to lead 20-18 at halftime.

The Pendragons outscored Hartington Cedar Catholic 13-5 in the third quarter to go up 33-23 at the end of three.

The Trojans put up 9 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for Pender.

Amber English led all scorers with 12 points. Kam Anderson added 9 for the Pendragons while Justice Sorenson notched 8.

Pender fell 48-44 to Wayne last Wednesday before losing 53-47 to Norfolk Catholic in the third place game on Thursday.

The Pendragons won 53-39 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.

Pender led the Blue Devils 13-9 after one. Wayne outscored the Pendragons 13-8 in the second quarter to go up 22-21 at halftime.

The Blue Devils doubled up Pender 8-4 in the third quarter to lead 30-25 at the end of three.

The Pendragons notched 19 fourth quarter points compared to 18 for Wayne.

Hallie Ballinger had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Pender, good enough for a double-double. Anderson added 12 points while Cecelie Jacobsen totaled 10 rebounds.

The Knights led Pender 31-12 at halftime. The Pendragons outscored Norfolk Catholic 18-8 in the third quarter to make it a 39-30 game at the end of three.

Pender notched 17 fourth quarter points compared to 14 for the Knights.

Ballinger finished with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds while English and Anderson notched 9 points each. Michaela Wegner registered 7.

The Pendragons and Bulldogs were tied up at 8 at the end of one. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family tripled up Pender 15-5 in the second quarter to take a 23-13 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons outscored the Bulldogs 20-9 in the third quarter to pull ahead 33-32 at the end of three.

Pender won the fourth quarter 20-7.

Anderson led all players with 23 points. Ballinger added 13 points and 13 rebounds, recording a double-double. Jacobsen totaled 8 points and 10 rebounds while Sorenson recorded 7 points.

The Pendragons did a nice job bouncing back from two tough losses to Wayne and Norfolk Catholic. Pender's win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family was impressive and very nice.

The Pendragons (6-5) square off with Homer (3-6) on Thursday in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament at Emerson-Hubbard.

The Knights are coming off a 42-27 loss to Randolph Tuesday night.

Homer has a few close wins this season, but all their losses have been lopsided.

I look for Pender to come out on fire and play well. I'm sure the Pendragons would like a shot at Emerson-Hubbard.

Ballinger has to continue to be the type of player she's been since the Wayne Holiday Tournament, and Anderson, English, Jacobsen, and Sorenson have to continue to produce as well.

Pender needs to stay hot to pick up a big win on Thursday and build momentum for a potential showdown with the Pirates on Saturday.

The biggest thing for the Pendragons is not looking ahead to the potential showdown with Emerson-Hubbard.

Pender has to be focused on Homer and cannot beat themselves.

I think the only way the Pendragons lose this game is if they aren't focused and ready to play. I don't look for that to be the case though.

I'm sure this team will be focused and raring to go.

I look for Pender to run away with things on Thursday. I think the Pendragons can win anywhere from 20-25 points.
