The Wisner-Pilger Boys played some tough competition at the Shootout on the Elkhorn Tournament in Wisner last Tuesday-Thursday, falling 62-60 to Neligh-Oakdale on Tuesday, and 65-56 to Battle Creek on Wednesday, before beating Wakefield 81-41 on Thursday.
The Gators led the Warriors 9-7 after one. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 15-12 to take a 24-19 lead into the locker room.
Neligh-Oakdale outscored the Gators 23-7 in the third quarter to go up 42-31 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger notched 29 fourth quarter points compared to 20 for the Warriors.
The Braves held a 16-12 lead at the end of one. The Gators won the second quarter 13-10 to make it a 26-25 game at halftime.
Battle Creek outscored Wisner-Pilger 19-7 in the third quarter to lead 45-32 at the end of three.
The Gators notched 24 fourth quarter points compared to 20 for the Braves.
Wisner-Pilger had their chance in the first game of the tournament against Neligh-Oakdale. The Gators led that one get away in the third quarter.
Wisner-Pilger (4-5) hosts Bancroft-Rosalie (7-1) Thursday night.
The Panthers lost 77-46 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the Homer Holiday Tournament Championship game on Wednesday.
Bancroft-Rosalie has been very consistent and dominant so far this season.
However, the Gators are a C-1 school and I think often times being a larger school makes a big difference.
I'm not saying the Panthers can't win, because certainly they can, but this is the type of game Wisner-Pilger needs to win.
The Gators have had their chances this year, but Wisner-Pilger has lost a number of close games.
Four of the Gators' five losses are by single digits.
Wisner-Pilger has to find a way to get over the hump. The Gators can't continue to let close games get away from them.
Wisner-Pilger has to be jacked, psyched, and fired up for Thursday's game. The Gators have to play with a sense of urgency, and be aggressive on both ends of the floor.
Wisner-Pilger has to force the issue, and take it to the Panthers for four quarters.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls won twice and lost once last week at the Shootout on the Elkhorn Tournament, defeating Neligh-Oakdale 44-27 last Tuesday, and Battle Creek 59-44 on Wednesday, before losing 60-25 to Pierce on Thursday in the Championship Game.

Wisner-Pilger tripled up the Warriors 9-3 in the third quarter to go up 36-18 at the end of three.

The Bluejays outscored Wisner-Pilger 13-4 in the third quarter to make it a 44-20 game at the end of three.
Pierce put up 16 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for the Gators.
Bailey Batenhorst finished with a team-high 11 points. Sydney Bradfield added 8.
Wisner-Pilger had a good showing in this tournament. The championship game didn't go the way the Gators would have liked, but Wisner-Pilger did a good job getting as far as they did.
The Gators (6-4) play host to Bancroft-Rosalie (3-6) Thursday evening.
The Panthers defeated Homer 57-30 in the consolation game of the Homer Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.
Bancroft-Rosalie is one of those teams who has gotten better as the year has gone along. The Panthers have struggled at times this season, but have played well at others.
Wisner-Pilger has to show up and play a good game without a doubt. The Gators can't afford to come out sluggish, and take Bancroft-Rosalie lightly.
Wisner-Pilger has sort of surprised some people this year so the Gators of all teams should know what it's like to sneak up on someone and beat them.
The Panthers are sort of in the same position Wisner-Pilger has been in all year long in that they are the underdog.
The Gators are the favorite in this game so it will be interesting to see how Wisner-Pilger does when they're favored.
The Gators have down fine when not in the underdog role this season so I imagine Wisner-Pilger will be just fine.
