Emerson-Hubbard Boys go 1-1 at Omaha Nation Holiday Tournament; Girls win whole thing

The Emerson-Hubbard Boys won once and lost once last week at the Omaha Nation Holiday Tournament, losing 53-44 to Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Tuesday before downing Santee 65-61 in the consolation game on Wednesday.

The Cougars jumped out to a 22-7 lead at the end of one. Lyons-Decatur Northeast won the second quarter 7-4 to take a 29-11 lead into the locker room.

The Pirates outscored the Cougars 11-6 in the third quarter to make it a 35-22 game at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard notched 22 fourth quarter points compared to 18 for Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

The Pirates led the Warriors 18-16 after one. Emerson-Hubbard outscored Santee 18-10 in the second quarter to take a 36-26 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 16 third quarter points, and the score at the end of three was 52-42 in favor of the Pirates.

The Warriors won the fourth quarter 19-13.

Emerson-Hubbard competed well in this Holiday Tournament, in my opinion. Lyons-Decatur Northeast is a quality team, and the Pirates gave the Cougars a run for their money. Emerson-Hubbard pretty much controlled things with Santee throughout.

The Pirates (2-7) prepare for the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament at home Friday and Saturday.

I believe Emerson-Hubbard will be playing Homer (1-7).

The Knights lost 64-31 to Howells-Dodge on Wednesday in the consolation game of the Homer Holiday Tournament.

With the exception of the Allen game, which Homer won, the Knights have been blown out in every game this season.

I think this tournament is an excellent chance for the Pirates to show what they can do.

I feel like Emerson-Hubbard is an improving team give what they did in the Omaha Nation Holiday Tournament, and I look for their efforts from that tournament to carry over to this tournament.

The Pirates will get either Wakefield or Pender on Saturday, and I really think Emerson-Hubbard has a chance to go 2-0 in this tournament.

If the Pirates play the way they did last week they can do some special things yet this season.

Emerson-Hubbard has a lot of work to do yet, but this team is improving right now, and that's what you like to see at any point in the season.

It will be interesting to see what the Pirates can do in this tournament.

The Emerson-Hubbard Girls won the Omaha Nation Holiday Tournament, defeating Lyons-Decatur Northeast 66-55 last Tuesday, and the host Chiefs 44-16 in the championship game on Wednesday.

The Pirates jumped out to an 18-14 lead on the Cougars at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard won the second quarter 17-15 to take a 35-29 lead into the locker room.

The Pirates outscored Lyons-Decatur Northeast 13-8 in the third quarter to go up 48-37 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 18 fourth quarter points.

Emerson-Hubbard tripled up Omaha Nation 12-4 in the first quarter. The Pirates outscored the Chiefs 14-3 in the second quarter to take a 26-7 lead into the locker room.

Emerson-Hubbard quadrupled up Omaha Nation 12-3 in the third quarter to take a 38-10 lead at the end of three.

Both teams scored 6 fourth quarter points.

The Pirates continued their mastery and domination of teams. The Lyons-Decatur Northeast game was close, but Emerson-Hubbard stepped up when it mattered most against Omaha Nation in dominating the Chiefs.

The Pirates (8-1) will square off with Wakefield (0-10) on Thursday in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament at Emerson-Hubbard.

The Trojans lost 64-57 to Winnebago in the 7th place game at the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament in Wisner last week.

It has been a difficult season for Wakefield. The Trojans have been competitive in a few of their games, but otherwise Wakefield has had a tough time just competing.

It will be interesting to see how Emerson-Hubbard approaches this game. The Pirates would just assume get out to a big lead early and rest starters I'm sure.

The last thing Emerson-Hubbard wants is for the Trojans to compete, hang around, and make things interesting.

The Pirates could very well meet Pender in the finals on Saturday, and what a game that would be.

First things first though, Emerson-Hubbard has to take care of business against Wakefield.

The Pirates don't want Thursday's game to be close. Emerson-Hubbard just assumes win big.

The Pirates have to come out and play hard, physical, and aggressive. Emerson-Hubbard has to take the fight to the Trojans, and leave no doubt.

Thursday's game is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m.
