Emerson-Hubbard Boys and Girls win Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament

The Emerson-Hubbard Boys won the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament last week, defeating Homer 63-43 Friday night, and Wakefield 56-54 on Saturday.

The Pirates and Knights were tied at 18 at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard outscored Homer 24-5 in the second quarter to take a 42-23 lead into the locker room.

The Knights won the third quarter 16-13 to make it a 55-39 game at the end of three.

The Pirates doubled up Homer 8-4 in the fourth quarter.

Emerson-Hubbard led the Trojans 10-8 after one. Wakefield won the second quarter 12-10 to tie the game at 20 at halftime.

The Trojans outscored the Pirates 22-20 in the third quarter to go up 42-40 at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard notched 16 fourth quarter points, and held Wakefield to 12.

The Pirates have really come on as of late. Emerson-Hubbard is starting to turn the corner, and play some great basketball.

The Pirates (4-7) battle Winnebago (14-0) on the road Tuesday night.

The Indians won 91-48 at Oakland-Craig Saturday night, and are the real deal.

I don't think Emerson-Hubbard has faced anybody of Winnebago's caliber so far this season.

The Pirates definitely have their work cut out for them. This is going to be a very tough game for Emerson-Hubbard.

The Indians have so many players who can hurt you, including David Wingett, D'Von Lapointe, Aspen Lapointe, Cedrick Blackdeer, and others.

The Pirates are going to have to play exceptional basketball not only to beat, but to even hang with Winnebago.

Emerson-Hubbard has been playing great basketball as of late, but the Indians have played at a very high level all season.

I think the Pirates have a chance to make things close and interesting, but I could also see Winnebago running away with things.

A lot of it depends on how well the Indians play, as well as how well Emerson-Hubbard plays.

If Winnebago takes the Pirates lightly, Emerson-Hubbard might be able to sneak up on the Indians.

But if Winnebago is ready to play, which I expect to be the case, then beating them might be out of the question.

The Emerson-Hubbard Girls also won the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament last week, topping Wakefield 63-24 Thursday night and Pender 57-54 on Saturday.

The Pirates led the Pendragons 14-8 at the end of one. Pender won the second quarter 17-13 to make it a 27-25 game at halftime.

The Pirates outscored the Pendragons 12-10 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 39-35 at the end of three.

Pender put up 19 fourth quarter points compared to 18 for Emerson-Hubbard.

The Pirates did a great job winning the tournament, but the game against the Pendragons was probably too close for comfort. Pender and Emerson-Hubbard could have another epic battle down the line.

The Pirates (10-1) travel to Winnebago (4-9) Tuesday night.

The Indians lost 61-45 at Oakland-Craig Saturday night.

Winnebago has lost four in a row, but despite their recent struggles, I feel the Indians are still a pretty decent team.

Winnebago is certainly capable of beating anyone they play, and if Emerson-Hubbard isn't on top of their game, this one could be interesting.

The Pirates should win as they have won 9 in a row.

Getting to 10 wins in a row would be a big deal for this team.

Emerson-Hubbard has a real tough game at Wynot on Saturday, and could use all the momentum they can get heading into that game.

At the same time, the Pirates can't be looking ahead to Saturday's game and overlook the Indians.

Emerson-Hubbard has to be focused and determined for 32 minutes when they play Winnebago.

The environment could very well be hostile, but the Pirates should be used to that by now given how good they are.

The biggest thing for Emerson-Hubbard is to go into Winnebago and win.

The Pirates don't have to win by 20, they just have to win by 1. A win is a win, and counts all the same.
