Emerson-Hubbard Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 3-0 in same span
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys are 1-2 in their last three games, losing 95-56 at Winnebago last Tuesday night, and 65-39 at Wynot on Saturday, before taking down Homer 56-41 at home Tuesday night.
The Indians led the Pirates 32-11 after one. Winnebago won the second quarter 22-15 to lead 54-26 at halftime.
The Indians outscored Emerson-Hubbard 30-13 in the third quarter to go up 84-39 at the end of three.
The Pirates notched 17 fourth quarter points and limited Winnebago to 11.
Tyler Haberman had a team-high 29 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Tyler Emmons chipped in 13 points.
The Blue Devils led Emerson-Hubbard 17-12 at the end of one. The Pirates won the second quarter 19-15 to make it a 32-31 game at halftime.
Wynot outscored Emerson-Hubbard 14-2 in the third quarter to lead 46-33 after three.
The Blue Devils notched 19 fourth quarter points and held the Pirates to 6.
Haberman had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Emerson-Hubbard and Homer were tied at 9 after one. The Pirates outscored the Knights 13-8 in the second quarter to take a 22-17 lead into the locker room.
Emerson-Hubbard won the third quarter 18-17 to go up 40-34 at the end of three.
The Pirates notched 16 points in the fourth quarter, and held Homer to 7.
Emerson-Hubbard played well for a half against Wynot, and found a way to win against the Knights. The Winnebago game wasn't the prettiest, but no one has been able to beat the Indians so far this season.
The Pirates (5-9) square off with Wakefield (5-11) on the road Friday night.
The Trojans lost 67-59 at Bancroft-Rosalie Tuesday night.
These two teams met in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament Championship game with Emerson-Hubbard winning 56-54.
I expect Friday night's game to be another dog fight.
I look for both teams to get after one another, and play well.
I suspect the game will be a four quarter game that goes down to the wire.
I could see the Pirates running away with things late or just flat out win big, but something tells me this one will be close.
I don't think Emerson-Hubbard will get blown out. That I don't see coming.
I look for Haberman and Emmons to have good games for the Pirates. Emerson-Hubbard needs both of them to produce to be successful.
The game could very well come down to a possession or two.
Knowing that, the Pirates have to value each possession and work for good shots. Getting to the free throw line and converting from the stripe wouldn't hurt either.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be smart, but aggressive.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls continue to play at a high level, knocking off Winnebago 79-63 on the road last Tuesday night, Wynot 55-48 on the road Saturday, and Homer 73-18 at home Tuesday night.
The Pirates led the Indians 22-17 after one. Emerson-Hubbard outscored Winnebago 19-10 in the second quarter to take a 41-27 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the third quarter 18-12 to go up 59-39 after three.
The Indians put up 24 fourth quarter points compared to 20 for Emerson-Hubbard.
The Pirates jumped out to a 31-5 lead on the Knights at the end of one. Homer won the second quarter 9-4 to make it a 35-14 game at halftime.
Emerson-Hubbard blanked the Knights 25-0 in the third quarter to go up 60-14 at the end of three.
The Pirates outscored Homer 13-4 in the fourth quarter.
Emerson-Hubbard has continued to handle their business. The Pirates are a really good team.
Emerson-Hubbard (13-1) squares off with Wakefield (1-15) on the road Friday night.
The Trojans lost 66-35 at Bancroft-Rosalie Tuesday night.
These two teams met in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament with the Pirates winning 63-24.
I look for Friday night's game to be real similar to the first time these two teams met.
I feel Emerson-Hubbard is primed and ready to pick up another big win. I don't see Wakefield competing with the Pirates by any means.
Emerson-Hubbard has been so good this year that it's hard to pick against them.
The Pirates go out there and handle their business on a nightly basis.
With that said, Emerson-Hubbard needs to play well Friday night with another big game against Pender coming up on Tuesday.
The Pendragons are the one team standing in the Pirates' way, in my opinion.
That's why it's so important for the Pirates to play a good game Friday night.
Emerson-Hubbard wants to be playing their best basketball heading into the Pender game on Tuesday.
We will see how the Pirates do Friday night. I would suspect nothing less than a gigantic, lopsided win for Emerson-Hubbard.
