Winnebago Boys 3-0 in last three games; Girls 0-4 in last four
The Winnebago Boys continue to roll everyone on their schedule as the Indians went 2-0 last week, and are 1-0 so far this week, defeating Emerson-Hubbard 95-56 at home last Tuesday night, Wynot 68-44 on the road last Friday night, and Ponca 62-53 at home Tuesday night.
The Indians led the Pirates 32-11 after one. Winnebago won the second quarter 22-15 to lead 54-26 at halftime.
The Indians outscored Emerson-Hubbard 30-13 in the third quarter to go up 84-39 at the end of three.
The Pirates notched 17 fourth quarter points and limited Winnebago to 11.
David Wingett led all scorers with 36 points. Aspen Lapointe added 12 while Drake Gorrin notched 10. D'von Lapointe registered 9 while Cedrick Blackdeer totaled 7.
The Indians led the Blue Devils 22-6 after one. Both teams scored 16 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 38-22 in favor of Winnebago.
Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter, and the Indians led 48-32 after three.
The Indians outscored Wynot 20-12 in the fourth quarter.
Wingett led the way with 30 points. Aspen and D'von Lapointe totaled 10 each while Gorrin registered 7.
Wingett had 17 points against Ponca. MaNaPe Cleveland totaled 10 while Gorrin and D'von Lapointe recorded 9 each. Blackdeer notched 8.
Things were a little too close for comfort against Ponca, and Wynot played Winnebago tough in the middle quarters, but the Indians are still winning, and that's all that matters.
Winnebago (17-0) hosts Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (12-3) on Saturday.
The Bears lost 64-54 at Battle Creek Thursday night.
This is a makeup game between the two teams as the game originally scheduled was postponed due to weather.
Laurel-Concord Coleridge is a solid team. The Bears are led by Dillan Wolfgram, who averages a lot of points per game. Jayden Reifenrath is another solid player for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
The Bears have decent size and speed, and are a solid team.
I think Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has a chance to make things interesting with the Indians, but I fully expect Winnebago to win.
Wingett is as good as they come, and Aspen and D'von Lapointe, Gorrin, Blackdeer, and Cleveland compliment him well.
The Indians are a complete team, and have the horses to dominate and go toe-to-toe with anyone on their schedule.
This is one of Winnebago's last tough regular season games.
The Indians have to be excited and inspired to take on the Bears. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is a good team, and Winnebago has to get ready to defend their home court.
The Indians have to play hard for all four quarters and turn in the type of complete game performance they are capable of.
The Winnebago Girls went 0-3 last week, and are 0-1 so far this week, losing 79-63 at home against Emerson-Hubbard last Tuesday night, 87-42 at Guardian Angels Central Catholic last Thursday night, 71-52 at Wynot last Friday night, and 66-56 at home to Ponca Tuesday night.
The Pirates led the Indians 22-17 after one. Emerson-Hubbard outscored Winnebago 19-10 in the second quarter to take a 41-27 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the third quarter 18-12 to go up 59-39 after three.
The Indians put up 24 fourth quarter points compared to 20 for Emerson-Hubbard.
Delicia Payer had a team-high 18 points while Illeana Frenchman totaled 14. Isabel Earth added 10 while Kae Earth registered 8. Jasmine Colvin notched 7.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 28-9 lead on the Indians at the end of one. GACC won the second quarter 28-15 to take a 56-24 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays outscored Winnebago 19-5 in the third quarter to go up 75-29 after three.
The Indians put up 13 fourth quarter points to GACC's 12.
Frenchman notched 11 points to lead the way. Payer and Kae Earth had 9 apiece while Isabel Earth registered 7.
Kae Earth led the way against the Blue Devils with 14 points. Frenchman and Colvin totaled 11 each while Payer added 10.
Winnebago led Ponca 16-14 after one. Ponca outscored Winnebago 23-11 in the second quarter to go up 37-27 at halftime.
Winnebago won the third quarter 14-10 to make it a 47-41 game at the end of three.
Ponca notched 19 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for Winnebago.
Frenchman and Kae Earth totaled 20 points each while Colvin recorded 11.
Winnebago just can't get over that hump and pick up a win for whatever reason. The Indians have been solid offensively, they just can't stop anyone.
Winnebago (4-13) hosts Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (1-14) on Saturday.
The Bears lost 54-35 at Battle Creek Tuesday night.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has played a number of teams on their schedule tough, but overall it has been a challenging and difficult season for the Bears.
The Indians should be able to notch their 5th win of the season and snap their eight-game losing streak.
Winnebago is a better team than what they've shown so far this season, in my opinion, and I think it's a matter of the Indians getting back to the form they played with the first two games of the season.
I think there's still time for Winnebago to do something this season although the schedule isn't the easiest the rest of the way.
The Indians have to continue to work hard and get better everyday. A win over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge would go a long ways in Winnebago having future success, in my opinion.
This is a must win game for the Indians. This is one Winnebago cannot afford to lose.
Frenchman, Colvin, Payer, and Kae and Isabel Earth all need to score the way they have all season.
The Indians also need to step up and improve defensively.
I look for Winnebago to roll to a big win. I think the Indians are capable of winning anywhere from 15-20 points.
This shouldn't be too challenging of a game or too difficult for Winnebago.
