Oakland-Craig Boys and Girls go 1-1 at Malcolm Holiday Tournament
The Oakland-Craig Boys lost their first and won their second game of the Malcolm Holiday Tournament last week, losing 44-34 to Wilber-Clatonia last Tuesday before downing Centennial 56-51 last Wednesday.
The Wolverines led the Knights 12-7 after one. Oakland-Craig won the second quarter 8-7 to make it a 19-15 game at halftime.
Wilber-Clatonia outscored the Knights 13-8 in the third quarter to lead 32-23 after three.
The Wolverines notched 12 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for Oakland-Craig.
Garrett Seagren had a team-high 12 points. Carter Thiele notched 10 while Evan Reinert scored 7.
The Knights led the Broncos 22-16 after one. Centennial won the second quarter 14-13 to make it a 35-30 game at halftime.
Oakland-Craig outscored the Broncos 12-9 in the third quarter to go up 47-39 at the end of three.
Centennial registered 12 fourth quarter points and limited the Knights to 9.
Thiele finished with a game-high 20 points. Seagren added 15 while Reinert totaled 12. Cody Mace recorded 9.
Oakland-Craig didn't play too bad last week. The Knights played Wilber-Clatonia tough, and found a way to knock off the Broncos for third place.
Oakland-Craig (4-6) hosts Stanton (9-2) tonight.
The Mustangs are coming off a 64-51 home win over Battle Creek Tuesday night.
Stanton has certainly been playing good basketball as of late, and will be tough for the Knights to handle without a doubt.
Like Oakland-Craig, the Mustangs have a number of scorers who can hurt people.
Myles Nickolite, Kyle Sperl, Brook Klinetobe, and Mitchael Sieh are all solid players that can score for Stanton.
It should be a good battle tonight between two very good teams.
The Mustangs have probably been the more consistent team this season, but the Knights are definitely capable of putting together a good game and winning.
Oakland-Craig has to get back to playing the kind of basketball they were at the beginning of the season.
The Knights were playing really good basketball early on, but have sort of struggled as of late.
We will see if Oakland-Craig can get back to form, and win tonight.
The Knights have a really tough game with Winnebago on Saturday so it's important for Oakland-Craig to play well in tonight's game.
We will see what the Knights bring to the table against two tough, quality opponents.
The Oakland-Craig Girls won their first game of the Malcolm Holiday Tournament last week, defeating Wilber-Clatonia 55-48 last Tuesday before falling 42-35 to Malcolm last Wednesday in the championship game.
The Knights led the Wolverines 17-7 after one. Wilber-Clatonia outscored Oakland-Craig 17-10 in the second quarter to make it a 27-24 game at halftime.
The Knights won the third quarter 13-12 to lead 40-36 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig notched 15 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for the Wolverines.
Brynn Charling finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Bailey Charling added 11 points while Olivia Bures totaled 10 points and 8 rebounds. Dacey Nelson notched 8 points while Emma Reinert recorded 7 points and 11 rebounds.
The Knights led the Clippers 8-6 after one. Both teams scored 11 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 19-17 in favor of Oakland-Craig.
Malcolm doubled up the Knights 10-5 in the third quarter to lead 27-24 at the end of three.
The Clippers outscored Oakland-Craig 15-11 in the fourth quarter.
Nelson paced the Knights with 13 points. Charling added 11 rebounds while Reinert totaled 8.
Oakland-Craig had a good showing in this tournament, in my opinion. The Knights didn't play the greatest against Wilber-Clatonia, but really stepped things up against Malcolm, especially in the first half.
Oakland-Craig (7-2) hosts Stanton (7-4) tonight.
The Mustangs downed Battle Creek 48-29 at home Tuesday night.
Stanton has been on a roll lately, and that has to concern the Knights.
This isn't the same team that people were beating early in the season. The Mustangs are a whole new team.
A big reason for Stanton's turnaround has been Hiliary Huss. She is scoring at a high rate night in and night out, and hasn't been slowed down.
Jessie Brandl and MacKenzie Brandl are other players that can do damage for the Mustangs.
Oakland-Craig needs to bring their "A" game to compete with and beat Stanton.
The Knights are more than capable of winning, but they need to turn in their best performance of the season so far, in my opinion.
I think tonight's game will be close and tightly contested. I look for both teams to get after one another, and make things interesting and entertaining.
This would be a big win for Oakland-Craig. Both teams could really use this win so it very well could come down to who wants it more.
The Knights take on Winnebago on Saturday so a win Friday night would be good momentum heading into that game.
It would be a big deal if Oakland-Craig won both games this weekend.
