Pender Boys lose to Wisner-Pilger and Howells-Dodge; Girls beat Gators, fall to Jaguars

The Pender Boys lost 71-31 at home to Wisner-Pilger Thursday night and 69-41 at Howells-Dodge on Saturday.

The Gators jumped out to a 20-8 lead on the Pendragons at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 11-5 to take a 31-13 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored Pender 22-7 in the third quarter to go up 53-20 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger put up 18 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for the Pendragons.

The Jaguars doubled up Pender 18-9 in the first quarter. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 17-9 to take a 35-18 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars outscored the Pendragons 21-12 in the third quarter to make it a 56-30 game after three.

Howells-Dodge put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for Pender.

The Pendragons had a tough go of things against the Gators and Jaguars. Pender played a little better against Howells-Dodge, but not nearly well enough to win.

The Pendragons (2-15) travel to Emerson to battle Emerson-Hubbard (6-9) Tuesday night.

The Pirates won 57-46 at Wakefield Friday night.

Emerson-Hubbard is definitely an improved team. The Pirates are playing a lot better than they did earlier in the season.

Pender should look at Emerson-Hubbard and try and emulate what the Pirates have done.

Emerson-Hubbard is a good example of turning around a lackluster season.

I've said all along the Pendragons are capable of having success given their success in football and baseball, and I still believe it's true.

It's just a matter of Pender playing at a high, consistent level offensively and defensively.

The Pirates have figured out a winning formula so I don't see why the Pendragons can't do the same thing.

Pender has to play at a high level Tuesday night if they want to come away with the win.

Things won't be easy, especially given the fact the game is in Emerson, but the Pendragons have to believe they have a chance at picking up the win.

We will see what happens Tuesday night. Win or lose, I look for this game to be a lot closer than some of Pender's other games this season.

Winning is going to be tough, but anything is possible.

The Pender Girls beat Wisner-Pilger 56-54 at home Thursday night before losing 65-64 at Howells-Dodge on Saturday.

The Gators jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one. The Pendragons outscored Wisner-Pilger 20-15 in the second quarter to make it a 29-25 game at halftime.

The Gators won the third quarter 14-10 to go up 43-35 at the end of three.

Pender put up 21 fourth quarter points and held Wisner-Pilger to 11 to pull out the come from behind win.

Amber English totaled 20 points to lead the Pendragons. Justice Sorenson added 19 while Kam Anderson scored 9. Cecilee Jacobsen notched 7 rebounds.

The Jaguars doubled up Pender 14-7 in the first quarter. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 17-16 to lead 31-23 at halftime.

Both teams scored 20 third quarter points, and the score after three was 51-43 in favor of the Jaguars.

The Pendragons outscored Howells-Dodge 21-14 in the fourth quarter.

Anderson led all scorers with 23 points. English and Sorenson chipped in 11 each while Michaela Wegner notched 10.

Pender is playing good basketball. The Pendragons are right there in terms of beating elite teams, and being an elite team themselves.

Pender (10-8) takes on Emerson-Hubbard (14-1) on the road Tuesday night.

The two teams met on January 9th in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament with the Pirates winning 57-54.

Emerson-Hubbard is a very good team, but I think the Pendragons are more than capable of getting the job done this time around.

Pender has played such a tough schedule, and has beaten and taken some tough teams to the brink.

The gauntlet schedule will no doubt pay off for the Pendragons at the end of the season.

This is another big game for Pender.

The Pendragons have a chance to even the season series up at 1 with another match up in sub districts a possibility.

And even though the postseason is when it really counts, it would be big for Pender to get this one.

Just knowing they can beat the Pirates would be a big boost mentally for this team.

I'm sure the Pendragons believe they can beat Emerson-Hubbard, now it's simply a matter of going out there and getting the job done.

Pender has a golden opportunity in front of them. Not many teams have been able to hang with let alone beat the Pirates this season.
