Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys beat Pender and Cedar Bluffs; Girls fall to Pendragons, roll Wildcats

Lyons Decatur Northeast's Boys defeated Pender 70 to 35 on the road Friday night. Head Coach Derek Lahm.

"We played fairly well. We've really been talking about working the ball inside, that's kind of our game, and I felt like we did a nice job of that. Both Bancroft and Mead are good teams, and I think that's kind of where we're at right now. Is we're wondering if, we're winning games, but we're wondering when we can win the big games."

The Cougars doubled up the Pendragons 22-11 in the first quarter. Lyons-Decatur Northeast won the second quarter 13-6 to take a 35-17 lead into the locker room.

The Cougars doubled up Pender 20-10 in the third quarter to go up 55-27 after three.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored the Pendragons 15-8 in the fourth quarter.

Alec Anderson scored 37 points, a new record for the school. He also pulled down 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. Marcus Hegy had a double-double of his own, scoring 11 points and ripping down 10 rebounds. Cole Christoffersen added 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The Cougars beat Cedar Bluffs 47-44 at home Tuesday night.

The Wildcats led 16-13 after one. Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored Cedar Bluffs 19-5 in the second quarter to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room.

The Wildcats won the third quarter 11-4 to make it a 36-32 game at the end of three.

Cedar Bluffs notched 12 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for the Cougars.

Anderson finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Hegy notched 12 points while Christoffersen totaled 7 rebounds.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast played good basketball Friday and Tuesday nights. The Cougars have been relentless with their approach.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (10-2) hosts Humphrey Lindsay/Holy Family (8-5) Friday night.

The Bulldogs lost 58-43 at home to Clearwater/Orchard Friday night of last week.

Humphrey Lindsay/Holy Family is a fairly respectable team who has struggled recently.

The Bulldogs are a good team though, and we will really find out a lot about this Cougars' squad Friday night and Saturday.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has been good, but they haven't beaten a really good team yet. A win Friday and another win on Saturday against Stanton would go a long ways in solidifying this team's status as a contender.

I feel the Cougars are for real, but there may be some people who don't view Lyons-Decatur Northeast as a real threat.

The Cougars shouldn't be taken lightly or underestimated. Lyons-Decatur Northeast is a good team.

If the Cougars could go 2-0 this weekend that would be incredible. 1-1 would be respectable while 0-2 would be tough to deal with.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast could easily lose both games this weekend, but I feel like the Cougars will at least get one of the two.

The rest of the schedule has its challenges so Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to keep playing well and winning to keep the ball rolling.

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Girls lost 56-54 at Pender Friday night before topping Cedar Bluffs 59-28 at home Tuesday night.

The Cougars led the Pendragons 15-11 after one. Pender won the second quarter 14-11 to make it a 26-25 game at halftime.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored the Pendragons 16-14 in the third quarter to lead 42-39 at the end of three.

Pender notched 17 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for the Cougars.

Mariah Jessen had a team-high 15 points. Lexie Bacon added 14 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Brianne Haskell and Kelly Wakeley totaled 10 points apiece. Abby Peterson notched 11 rebounds.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast held a 13-6 advantage on the Wildcats at the end of one. The Cougars quadrupled up Cedar Bluffs 16-4 in the second quarter to go up 29-10 at halftime.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast won the third quarter 14-9 to lead 43-19 after three.

The Cougars outscored the Wildcats 16-9 in the fourth quarter.

Haskell had a game-high 15 points and 8 rebounds. Bacon registered 14 points and 8 rebounds while Peterson notched 8 points and 7 rebounds. Jessen finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds while Tessie Collins recorded 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Multiple players got into the act for Lyons-Decatur Northeast. The Cougars did a great job of spreading the wealth against Cedar Bluffs.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (10-3) hosts Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (9-5) Friday night.

The Bulldogs won 52-30 at home against Clearwater/Orchard this past Friday night.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is a tough team, especially defensively, so we will see what transpires Friday night.

It should be a close, competitive ball game that comes down to the wire.

The Cougars should be used to close, tight ball games by now, and should be ready to gear up for another barn burning dandy.

I like Lyons-Decatur Northeast's chances of pulling out a victory Friday night.

I think the Cougars will have just enough in the tank to get the job done.

Saturday's game with Stanton has its own challenges, and that should be yet another tough game for Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

It will be very important for the Cougars to play their best basketball from here on out. The schedule isn't easy the rest of the regular season.

I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast's depth will get challenged this weekend. Both teams are tough, and will no doubt look to attack the Cougars at all times.

We will see what Lyons-Decatur Northeast can do this weekend.
