Wisner-Pilger Boys and Girls beat Bancroft-Rosalie
The Wisner-Pilger Boys got back to .500 with a 50-41 win at home over Bancroft-Rosalie Thursday night.
The Panthers and Gators were tied at 13 at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 14-10 to go up 27-23 at halftime.
Bancroft-Rosalie outscored the Gators 9-8 in the third quarter to make it a 35-32 game at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger notched 15 fourth quarter points and held the Panthers to 9.
Head Coach Duane Mendlik on the win.
"I thought for the most part we did a decent job. And we come away with the win. I told the kids it was pretty ugly, but it's still a win, and that's kind of what we're interested in."
Despite the win, Mendlik still wasn't pleased with his team's overall performance.
"Bancroft played really hard, really scrappy. We have to do a better job...pretty simple."
The Gators (5-5) host Howells-Dodge (6-7) Friday night.
The Jaguars defeated Plainview 49-35 at home on Saturday.
Howells-Dodge, like Wisner-Pilger, has been up and down this year.
The Jaguars have looked really good at times, but have looked like an average team at others.
This should be a good battle between two fairly equal teams.
I look for the likes of Tyler Polacek, Mitchell Prusa, Nolan Lund, Luke Renter, and others to do damage for Howells-Dodge.
The Gators definitely have some capable players as well, and all will need to step up if Wisner-Pilger wants to be successful Friday night.
It should be an interesting chess match between the two teams. I look for things to be close and come down to the wire.
I don't think either team is going to run away with things by any means.
The team that plays the best, executes at the highest level, makes the most shots, and takes better care of the ball will probably win.
Both teams have been pretty solid offensively and defensively in their wins so whoever gets the job done better on both ends of the floor will probably come out on top.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls topped Bancroft-Rosalie 55-38 at home Thursday night.
The Gators led the Panthers 13-9 at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 21-2 in the second quarter to take a 34-11 lead into the locker room.
The Panthers won the third quarter 16-12 to make it a 46-27 lead after three.
Bancroft-Rosalie put up 11 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for the Gators.
Head Coach Chuck Ross. "It's taken us a while, four years, to get these seniors to play together. I mean they were all kind of good athletes, and finally they just decided that you know what this is our last season, so let's make it a good one. And it's really helped us tremendously in practice. And they're just a great group of girls."
Wisner-Pilger (7-4) hosts Howells-Dodge (8-3) Friday night.
The Jaguars defeated Plainview 50-15 at home on Saturday.
The Gators have to watch out for Sam and Kalli Brester, among others.
Howells-Dodge is a very good team, and Wisner-Pilger is going to have to play a great game to beat them.
I really don't know who is going to win this game. I think things could definitely go either way.
I would be awfully surprised if this game didn't go down to the wire, and wouldn't be shocked if it went into overtime or beyond.
I look for a game in the 50's or 60's decided by 5 points or less.
Every possession, shot, free throw, foul, and turnover is critical.
Everything matters in this game, and neither team has a huge margin for error.
It will be interesting to see how the Gators do in this game. The game being in Wisner is an advantage for the Gators no doubt.
I could see Wisner-Pilger winning, but I could also see Howells-Dodge stealing one on the road.
It should be a great game regardless of who wins.
