Howells-Dodge Boys 0-2 in last two games; Girls 2-1 in last three

The Howells-Dodge Boys lost 59-54 in overtime at Wisner-Pilger last Friday night before falling 60-37 at Humphrey St. Francis on Saturday.

The Gators led the Jaguars 19-17 after one. Wisner-Pilger and Howells-Dodge each scored 16 second quarter points, and the score at halftime was 35-33 in favor of the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger doubled up the Jaguars 12-6 in the third quarter to lead 47-39 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge notched 13 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger outlasted the Jaguars 7-2 in the extra session.

Head Coach Cole Fischer. "The boys battled to force OT and made some big shots down the stretch. Overall, I thought we played well enough win just could not buy a bucket in OT."

Tyler Polacek led the way with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Nolan Lund added 17 points and 7 rebounds while Luke Renter notched 10 points and 7 rebounds.

The Flyers led Howells-Dodge 12-5 after one. Both teams scored 12 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 24-17 in favor of Humphrey St. Francis.

The Flyers outscored the Jaguars 14-5 in the third quarter to lead 38-22 at the end of three.

Humphrey St. Francis won the fourth quarter 22-15.

Polacek led the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Mitchell Prusa registered 9 points while Dax VanLengen scored 7.

Howells-Dodge had a difficult time with the Flyers. The Jaguars played well in the first half, but not the second half.

Howells-Dodge (6-9) hosts Pender (2-14) on Saturday.

The Pendragons lost 71-31 at home to Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.

The Jaguars should be able to beat Pender relatively easy.

As long as Howells-Dodge is ready to play and plays well for an entire game, they should have no problem putting away the Pendragons.

Pender is capable of getting hot on a certain night and scoring a lot of points, but it's a rarity for the Pendragons.

However, the Jaguars have to defend well and have to be on top of their game offensively.

Howells-Dodge has to be ready to go toe-to-toe with Pender for four quarters.

It doesn't matter what the score is, the Jaguars have to remain hungry and must continue to play hard.

Howells-Dodge can't let up should the game get out of hand.

Good habits start with playing hard and smart no matter the score, and all great teams play well regardless of what the score on the scoreboard reads.

The Jaguars need to play a really good game so a lot of players can get in.

This is a game Howells-Dodge should use as a confidence booster, and an experience gainer for the future.

The Howells-Dodge Girls defeated Wisner-Pilger 62-38 on the road last Friday night, beat Humphrey St. Francis 40-26 on the road Saturday, and lost 41-40 on the road to Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

The Jaguars led the Gators 9-8 at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored Wisner-Pilger 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-16 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars won the third quarter 19-10 to go up 45-26 after three.

Howells-Dodge put up 17 fourth quarter points and limited the Gators to 12.

Chelsea Bayer led the way with 15 points. Emily Ritzdorf added 13 while Sam Brester scored 11 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Kelly Cech totaled 10 points.

The Jaguars held a 12-7 advantage on the Flyers at the end of one. Howells-Dodge won the second quarter 9-6 to go up 21-13 at halftime.

The Jaguars outscored Humphrey St. Francis 6-5 in the third quarter to make it a 27-18 game at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge notched 13 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for the Flyers.

Bayer and Brester each had 10 points while Kalli Brester notched 8 points and 7 rebounds.

The Tigers took a 9-2 lead on the Jaguars after one. Both teams scored 10 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 19-12 in favor of Tekamah-Herman.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the third quarter to go up 28-26 at the end of three.

Tekamah-Herman put up 15 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for the Jaguars.

I must say I was a little surprised Howells-Dodge lost to Tekamah-Herman. Give credit to the Tigers, but I thought the Jaguars would win.

Howells-Dodge (11-4) hosts Pender (10-7) on Saturday.

The Pendragons edged Wisner-Pilger 56-54 at home Thursday night.

This will be a tough, difficult game for the Jaguars, there's no doubt about it.

Pender may not have the greatest record, but they've played a really difficult schedule, and played the tough teams on their schedule real close.

Given the fact Howells-Dodge lost to Tekamah-Herman, this game could be closer than some might expect it to be.

The Jaguars must have a short memory though because you can bet the Pendragons will come ready to play.

Howells-Dodge can't let the loss to the Tigers turn into multiple losses.

The loss to Tekamah-Herman has to be an isolated loss in that it can't lead to anymore losses.

I fully expect the Jaguars to turn in a solid performance on Saturday.

I think Howells-Dodge will comeback and pick up a big win.

It won't be easy, but I think the Jaguars are mentally tough enough to get the job done.

We will see though. Nothing is a for sure thing as Howells-Dodge found out Friday night.
