BRLD Boys top Oakland-Craig and Wakefield; Girls lose to Knights, down Wakefield-Allen

The BRLD Boys Basketball Team won 62-51 at Oakland-Craig Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull, and then won 68-55 at Wakefield Tuesday night.

BRLD led the Knights 9-7 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 15-14 to make it a 23-22 game at halftime in favor of the Wolverines.

The Wolverines outscored the Knights 19-13 in the 3rd quarter to take a 42-35 lead at the end of three.

BRLD won the 4th quarter 20-16.

Lucas Vogt led all scorers with 21 points while Will Gatzemeyer added 16. Dylan Beutler totaled 7.

Head Coach Cory Meyer says Vogt does a lot for the team. "A lot of times he doesn't even need to score. He gets a lot of assists, a lot of rebounds. One of my better defenders for the guard position. And I mean there's a lot of times where we have some big wins and he doesn't score very much just because he does the other work."

The Wolverines led the Trojans 23-11 at the end of one. BRLD won the 2nd quarter 18-17 to take a 41-28 lead at halftime.

The Wolverines won the 3rd quarter 13-11 to go up 54-39 at the end of three.

Wakefield won the 4th quarter 16-14.

Good wins for BRLD.

The Wolverines (12-1) take on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (11-2) on the road Monday night in action that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Bulldogs won 75-43 at Clearwater/Orchard Friday night.

The game was supposed to be played on Friday, but was rescheduled due to the weather.

This should be a great game, and could  of very well decided who earned the 2nd seed in the upcoming East Husker Conference Tournament.

Both teams are playing really well right now, and that should make for a great game.

The game could truly go either way, and BRLD has to be ready to go full tilt with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

The Wolverines have to prepare themselves mentally as well as physically.

BRLD also has Stanton on Saturday and Winnebago on Tuesday, but the Wolverines have to be ready for the Bulldogs too.

This is a huge game, and BRLD has to be ready to give Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and they can want and handle and then some.

The Wolverines have to come out and execute offensively and play good, fundamentally sound defense as well.

BRLD has to win the 50/50 balls, and want it more than the Bulldogs.

The Wolverines have to be business like, and be serious and go hard with everything that they do.

BRLD has to bring their A game and take it to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family from start to finish.

The Wolverines have to be excited and jacked for this one, but not too psyched up at the same time.

BRLD has to stay calm, cool, and collected during tough stretches, but be aggressive and make plays during key times in the game.

The game is scheduled to tip-off after the girls game on the Bull, which is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.

The BRLD Girls Basketball Team lost 60-50 at Oakland-Craig Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 57-49 at Wakefield-Allen Tuesday night.

Oakland-Craig got out to a 13-12 lead at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 16-11 to take a 29-23 lead into the locker room.

The Knights outscored BRLD 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 43-31 at the end of three.

The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 19-17.

Caragan Tietz paced BRLD with 10 points. Alyssa Buchholz added 9 while Jordan Snyder totaled 8.

Head Coach Rod Peters credits his team for never giving up. "I challenged them in the 4th quarter, and I said we got to come out and play. And we maybe cut it to 4 or 5 there. We did a lot of good things so they showed me a lot of guts there. We could of hung our heads and said man this game's over we can't shoot free throws, they got a 16, 17 point lead. But they showed me a lot of guts. It's not easy when you get down to a good team like that. And we competed at the end and we gave up some layups, but we were taking some chances that maybe we normally don't. So I was proud of them for the way they played in the 4th quarter."

The Wolverines (11-4) take on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (14-1) on the road Monday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Bulldogs won 71-30 at Madison Thursday night.

This should be a great game, and was going to be a big game for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding.

The game was supposed to be played on Friday, but was rescheduled due to the weather.

BRLD has to have a great game plan and must be ready to play.

The Wolverines have to come out and play the way they did against West Point-Beemer.

Anyone is beatable in this conference as the Cadets and Oakland-Craig have both found out (North Bend Central upset the Knights 52-49), and so BRLD has to feel good about themselves heading into this one.

The Wolverines have to get out and run and get easy baskets in transition, but also execute in the half court offense and take good shots.

I think defense will be big for BRLD as well in this one.

The Wolverines have to try and control Taya Beller and others.

BRLD has to step up their game and play well.

The Wolverines can definitely win this one, they just have to be smart and aggressive.

BRLD has to set good, hard screens and crash the glass and follow their shot.

The Wolverines have to be heady and know score, clock, and situation at all times.

BRLD has to be mentally as well as physically tough.

The Wolverines have to battle hard for four quarters, and lay it all out on the line.

BRLD has to play their hearts out and give it all they got and leave everything out on the floor.

Making layups and free throws figures to be huge in a game like this.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on the Bull.
